The Villager (Houston): Letter to the editor

Thursday, 9/19/2002 I was pleasantly surprised and excited that The Woodlands has the honor of holding seminars on Falun gong, a body/mind exercise that is empowering to all those who practice it. It stands as a tragedy that the government of China has chosen to arrest, torture and kill the practitioners of this extremely important exercise that incorporates mind, body and soul. We, in the United States, are privileged to live in a free society whereby the individual can evolve according to his or her own free will.

My sister spent four years teaching in a law school near the Yangtze River. It was very sad for her to experience that oppression of Chinese citizens who engage in Falun Gong. Her students were extremely bright and their broadening understanding of the world as a whole created within them a questioning spirit of reason. I truly believe that if societies like our own endorse the practice of Falun Gong, leverage may be brought on the Chinese government which is seeking to become a recognized, modernizing Third World country which will sponsor the 2008 Olympics. The world voice spoken in unison may be the influence needed to bring about change in the modus operandi of official government practices in China. Thank God for our freedoms in America. These are forever worth maintaining for all times.
