United States Senator Bill Nelson's Letter to a Falun Gong Practitioner (Clearwisdom.net) United State Senate September 26, 2002 Bill Nelson (Addressee omitted) Dear Ms. [name omitted to avoid Chinese embassy's harassment] Thank you for contacting me to express your concerns regarding China and the Falun Gong. I
appreciate your taking the time to inform me about your views on this issue. I share your concerns
regarding the Chinese government's maltreatment of Falun Gong practitioners. China' disregard for,
and abuse of, human rights are very troubling and need to be addressed. The Chinese government is
aware of my concern about such persecution and the need for change in China. As you are aware, H. Con. Res. 188, calls for the U.S. to urge China to cease its persecution of
all Falun Gong practitioners. Moreover, this resolution encourages China to abide by the
international Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
by allowing Falun Gong practitioners to pursue their personal beliefs. This resolution was passed by
the House of Representatives on July 24, 2002 and has been referred to the Senate Foreign Relations
Committee, of which I am a member. I will keep your views in mind when making any decisions
regarding this issue. I appreciate your taking the time to be involved and informed about such matters. Your concerns
are important to me. Sincerely, Bill Nelson (Signature) P.S. This response took longer than I would like. The anthrax attack on the Senate and resulting
new security measures have delayed my mail delivery by several weeks. Thanks for your patience. Posting date: 10/9/2002
