Dear Mr. President:
Professional and Technical Engineers Local 21 wishes to
convey to you our deep concern over the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners
in China. We know that your administration has raised this issue in the past
with the government of China. We urge you to continue to press China, and
President Jiang Zemin to stop the campaign of repression and imprisonment of the
Falun Gong.
[...] It is reported in the media that approximately 25,000
Chinese Falun Gong members are now detained in labor camps, prisons or mental
hospitals.
Reports from their followers who have been held in labor
camps assert that detainees are forced to work up to 20 hours per day without
compensation. Some of the products manufactured in these labor camps it is
believed are then exported. Some of these products are sold in the United
States. This is unconscionable. This hurts workers, here, abroad and in China.
Please continue to press China, and President Zemin to honor
basics human rights and end the campaign of repression and terror against Falun
Gong.
á
Sincerely,
á
David Novogrodsky
Executive Director.
