The Long-Term Torture of Falun Dafa Practitioners at the Tanghe Detention Center of Nanyang, Henan Province

Li Wei, the former Chief of the Tanghe County Detention Center of Nanyang, Henan Province, illegally kept Falun Dafa practitioners who were steadfast in their practice under long-term detention. He ordered those Dafa practitioners who had studied the Fa [law and principles of the practice of Falun Dafa] to be beaten with a leather belt, and deprived of food.

Song Xue, the temporary chef backed by the police, cooked extremely thin, dirty porridge, which was fed to the practitioners only three times a day. Also, rather than giving any leftovers to practitioners, he would pour the porridge into a ditch. Song was very rude and sarcastic to practitioners.

All who were detained at the Tanghe County Detention Center were forced to pay for boarding expenses, costing them 18 Yuan a day [An average urban worker's salary is about 500 Yuan]. Many practitioners had to pay several thousand Yuan for security, as well as another several thousand Yuan for boarding expenses before they could be released after a long detention. All who were released were emaciated and penniless. Some of them had to sell their cattle and some had to obtain a loan. These kind people were forced into total ruin.

When one practitioner was finally released in October of 2000, he had been starved for so long that his body looked like a skeleton.

In the fall of the year 2001, three female Dafa practitioners protested against their long-term detention by hunger striking. Their lives were greatly endangered. One of them became extremely weak and was given emergency treatment in a hospital for several days. Their families eventually took them back home. Another two practitioners also protested against their illegal detention after they had been kidnapped and taken to the Tanghe County Detention Center in April of 2002. They were eventually released.

Xu Qi, a Falun Dafa practitioner from the Nanyang Oil Field, escaped from a brainwashing class in the spring of 2001. He remained homeless, and was arrested by police as he went back to see his parents and children in January of 2002, who had been under surveillance. The heads of the company he worked for collaborated with local police and tried to force him into betraying his belief. But Xu stood strong and resisted the evil persecution with a hunger strike. He was on the verge of dying due to many brutal force-feedings. After such a long torture Xu Qi has become dangerously thin, yet he is still being illegally detained. We hope that all kind people will help him.
