A Practitioner's Husband: I Will Not Represent My Wife to Write a "Guarantee Letter"

As China's Sixteenth Party Congress approached, Jiang's regime was escalating its persecution of Falun Gong. A supervisor was asked by higher authorities to have all the practitioners in his workplace write guarantee letters saying that they won't go to Beijing to appeal. The practitioners refused to do so. At the time, a practitioner's husband (a non-practitioner) was on a business trip in another city. The couple works for the same work unit. The supervisor threatened him that if he wouldn't return immediately, represent his wife to write the guarantee letter, and pay 5,000 Yuan [Chinese currency, the monthly salary for an average Chinese urban worker is about 500 Yuan] as bail, he would be laid off. The man told the supervisor and "610 Office" member with certainty, "I will not represent my wife to write the guarantee letter" [The 610 Office is a bureau specifically created by the Chinese government to persecute Falun Gong. It has absolute power over each level of administration in the Party, as well as over the political and judiciary branches]. He continued, "There is chance my family will travel in Beijing. Appealing is a right guaranteed by the Constitution. How can I deprive other people of their rights? I will be wrong if I write this guarantee. Since my wife began to practice Falun Gong, her heath has improved and my family has become more harmonious. I can fully devote myself to my job without worrying about the family. Colleagues and neighbors praise my wife. She never commits wrongdoings. Why should she pay bail?"

The "610 Office" member said, "Because she is your wife, you will be laid off if you don't write the guarantee letter and pay 5,000 Yuan as bail." The husband spoke with integrity, "Even if you lay me off, I won't write the guarantee letter or pay the bail. Can you give me a clear reason for laying me off? It would be by force, not because I am not a good worker." The conversation thus ended without a result.

The next day, the "610 Office" member initially told the husband, "The order is from the top. We have no choice. You ask your wife to write a guarantee letter and deal with it. At home, she can practice Falun Gong at will." The husband said, "Falun Gong practitioners practice Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance. They tell you the truth because they respect you. If you force them to lie and fool you, will you feel better? Aren't those Falun Gong practitioners in our workplace good people?" The supervisor and "610 Office" member nodded and said, "Indeed, they are good."

The husband said, "You know they are good. What have they done to you? Why do you turn in these good people? To treat good people badly is an offense to the heavens and common sense. You would be better off if you put your energy into doing good things." The supervisor and the "610 Office" member were rendered speechless.
