Canadian Falun Dafa Practitioner Calls for Help to Rescue Her Illegally Detained Father in China

My name is Liu Lixia and I am a Falun Dafa practitioner and a permanent resident of Canada. My father, Liu Baoxing, 64, now retired, was formerly a senior electric welding instructor working for a chemical plant in China. Before taking up the practice of Falun Dafa, he suffered from a gastric ulcer and osteophytosis and had to rely on drugs to relieve his pain. After he started practicing Falun Dafa in 1994, all the symptoms of his sickness disappeared and even his gray hair started to turn black as well. He used to play mahjong now and then in his leisure, but after taking up Falun Dafa practice he spent his spare time helping out with the home duties and doing volunteer maintenance work for the local housing committee. Watching the changes in him, I knew that Falun Dafa must be good; hence, I took up Falun Dafa as well. When the persecution of Falun Dafa began in 1999, he was arrested and put in detention for a period of time. After his release, he was watched constantly and the telephone was tapped as well. Whenever he visited a friend, he was asked if his visit was related to Falun Dafa.

On July 4, 2002, at about noon, a police officer took my father away for questioning. Later at about three in the afternoon, about 6 or 7 police officers came to my father's house. Without a search warrant, they ransacked the house and took away a lot of Dafa materials, including videotapes, audiotapes, and books. Later, my father was charged with various "criminal" offences and detained in the Hebei Branch Office of the Tianjin City Police Department. No visitors, not even relatives, were allowed to see him. On November 12, the family received a call from the police department, saying that my father would soon be put on trial.

I am appealing to the Canadian Government to help rescue my father.
