Prime Minister
Technical Councilor
Paris, November 8, 2002

Mr. President,

The Prime Minister has received your letter on the subject of the repression of Falun Gong practitioners in China, and he has asked me to reply to you.

France and her European partners have attentively followed this campaign since 1999. They are concerned about the numerous allegations of torture surrounding it.

France will continue to remind the Chinese authorities of our country's attention to the respect of fundamental freedoms, and of our wish to see these applied in that area. The Prime Minister once again expressed our concerns on the issue of human rights, on the occasion of the visit to France of his Chinese counterpart, Mr. Zhu Rongji, on this past 26 to 28 September.
