Bay Area Chinese Support Hong Kong Residents in Opposing Basic Law Article 23 Legislation (Photos)
(Clearwisdom.net) From 11 am to 2 pm on December 14, 2002, the "Global Coalition Against
Article 23 Legislation" assembled a large-scale rally and parade in the rain in
San Francisco Chinatown's Garden Corner Park, supporting the Hong Kong
Anti-Article 23 parade on December 15, 2002. On September 24, 2002 the Hong Kong government published a consultation
document for Article 23 legislation. It immediately caused concerns and protests
in the international community. At the same time, many Chinese organizations in
various countries spoke out to support the people of Hong Kong's basic human
rights and freedom. Some Bay Area Falun Gong practitioners also attended the parade. A Falun Gong
representative spoke at the rally and called on all overseas Chinese to work
together to protect the human rights and legal system of Hong Kong, and to stop
the Article 23 legislation.
