Practitioner in Australia Asks For Senator's Help to Deliver a Letter and Christmas Present to Fiancée in a Chinese Forced Labor Camp
Dear Senator [...],
Thank you for your letter of 12th November 2002 regarding my
fiancée Li Ying, who is currently illegally detained in China. I am writing to
you to report a piece of good news and asking for your help in making further
steps.
Recently I was told that the labour camp has treated Li Ying
differently and is allowing her some freedom. It seems that this progress may be
related to the combined efforts of the Australian Government and all the people
who have shown concern for her case. Please accept my sincere appreciation for
all of your efforts.
As Christmas is approaching, everyone else is reuniting with
his or her loved ones. However, my fiancée is still suffering the risk of being
tortured, while I am unable to obtain a visa to China to visit her.
I have written a letter to Li Ying and have a Christmas gift
for her. I doubt that my letter will reach her, due to the high security in
China. Would it be possible for an Australian Government official to kindly
deliver this message in Shanghai? Hopefully, this will also help reduce the risk
of her being badly treated and show a democratic country's concern for a trading
partner's citizens. I have already written a letter to the Honourable Alexander
Downer MP, Minister for Foreign Affairs, regarding this matter, hoping that he
would be able to help me.
Therefore, I would be extremely grateful if you could also
pass on the message to Mr Downer on my behalf regarding this matter. Li Ying and
I have lost contact with each other for more than a year. Words cannot express
how important it is to us for my letter and present to be passed on to her
directly.
Thank you again for your kindest help.
I wish you and your family a safe and warm Christmas.
Yours Sincerely
Cheezong Lee
