Safe in Canada, Dafa Practitioner Wang Yuzhi Recalls the Brutal Persecution She Suffered in China
By Practitioner Wang Yuzhi
November 13, 2002 (Clearwisdom.net) Hello everyone! I am very grateful to the Canadian Government, people and Falun Gong
practitioners for rescuing me and enabling me to arrive safely in Canada. I am
honoured to have this opportunity to be here and tell the Canadian media the
truth of my persecution in China by Jiang and his associates. My personal
experience is the verification of Jiang's brutal persecution of Falun Gong
practitioners using "defamation, physical and economic destruction." For my determination to speak the truth, I was jailed three times I obtained Dafa at the beginning of 1998 in Harbin. After July 20, 1999, I
was jailed three times because I was determined to cultivate Dafa. The first time was during the 2000 Spring Festival, when I appealed at
Tiananmen Square and clarified the truth to people. After I was arrested, the
police tried to force me to write a "guarantee statement" indicating that I
would not go to appeal in Tiananmen Square again. When I refused, they brought
in my family members and ordered them to persuade me into writing this
guarantee. I still refused to co-operate. I did not recite the jail rules, and
when I shared experiences with other practitioners, the inmates would torture
and insult me. Despite all this, I did not bend to the pressure and they had no
choice but to release me on the seventh day. The second time was on July 15, 2000. I was printing truth-clarifying
materials when someone told the police and I was arrested at the printing
location and subjected to brutal beatings. My face became swollen and I could
not move my arms or legs. I sustained purple and black bruises all over my body
and I had a black eye. The police ordered me to tell them who I was distributing
these leaflets to. I did not tell them. Then they tried to force me to sign a
detention slip. I refused once again. After 14 days, they released me. The third time was during October 2000. Because some practitioners from other
places were arrested, some local practitioners were affected, and more than 100
local practitioners were arrested. The Province Police Department called this
the "huge 11.01 case." This case alarmed Luo Gan [Luo Gan is the Party
secretary of the Central Political and Judiciary Committee. He is very cruel in
persecuting Falun Gong]. I was wanted by the police and my name and photo
were posted on the Internet as well as telegraph poles. The reward for my arrest
was 50,000 Yuan [Chinese currency, the monthly salary for an average Chinese
urban worker is about 500 Yuan]. My relatives were harassed and put under
surveillance. I was forced to leave my home to wander the streets. On July 16, 2001, I was reported to the police because I went to the bank to
withdraw US dollars and was arrested for the so-called crime of "connecting with
overseas." All of my assets were frozen. The Province Police Department
organised more than 20 people who charged into my relative's house (where I
lived before) and confiscated my deposit receipts. At the same time, they
interrogated my family members and accused me of many crimes. Both the
provincial police department and the "610 Office" [a bureau specifically
created by the Chinese government to persecute Falun Gong. It has
absolute power over each level of administration in the Party, as well as over
the political and judiciary branches.] heard my case. During my detention,
I suffered inhumane tortures of both mind and body. Police and inmates would
surround me and insult me viciously. They did not let me practice the exercises
and often did not allow us to go to the toilet. I was often secretly beaten by
the head of the inmates. Verifying the darkness experienced inside the Wanjia Forced Labour Camp During my third illegal detention, I went on a hunger strike to protest
against the inhumane tortures and persecution. However, police from the
detention center and the labor camp use force-feeding as a method of torture on
Falun Dafa practitioners. When I went on a hunger strike at the Harbin City Detention Center, the
doctor used a metal clamp to force my jaws open and pushed a rubber tube down my
throat into my stomach. The rubber tube is the type used as a gas tube. My mouth
became filled with blood and I sustained injuries all over my body from being
beaten. Every time they would force-feed me two big bowls of corn noodle
porridge. During the force-feeding, more than ten people would push me onto a
wooden board; they would press me down so hard that I could no longer breath.
Every time I would fight against them and say "Falun Dafa is good." The police
were scared that other people would hear this and would order the inmates to
muffle my mouth and hit me. After every force-feeding, they would quickly take
me back to the cell. The tube feeding within Wanjia Labor Camp is even more unthinkably evil. When
the police are force-feeding practitioners, they brutally kick and punch them
many times, and insult and handcuff practitioners to the beds in order to
force-feed them. When male doctors are force-feeding, they grab female
practitioner's hair and hit their heads against the wall. Practitioners become
dizzy and see stars in front of their eyes. Their faces, noses and mouths bleed.
The swelling on their heads is often as large as an egg. That scene is
unbearable to witness. A nurse grabbed one practitioner and pulled her hair and
pinched her face and body. As a result, this practitioner sustained black and
blue marks all over her body. After I saw female practitioner Guo Mingxia's
entire body twitching weakly after a force-feeding (she was in the same cell as
I), I blamed the unlawful actions of the policemen and the doctors. Due to this,
I was beaten up. One of the cruellest things was that the police force-fed
practitioner Ding Yanhong in front of her husband who started to cry after
seeing her suffer so much. Amongst the practitioners, many have already been on
a hunger strike for more than a month. Doctors at Wanjia Forced Labor Camp use force-feeding as a torture method and
do not care whether practitioners live or die. On the surface they say that they
are saving people, but in reality it is cruel torture. Every day, practitioners
were force-fed corn noodles and large amounts of cold water. The amount of the
corn noodles is so little that it is even less than that for an infant. Because of the persecution, many practitioners had purulent scabies. During
December 2001, Wanjia Forced Labor Camp transported practitioners who had
scabies from the 12th and 7th teams to a hospital. Those
who did not have scabies and who were on a hunger strike were placed together.
Some practitioners had scabies, which grew larger than the size of a peach. It
is tremendously painful if the scabies are touched. Practitioners could not lie
down, nor could they touch the bed sheets. If they did, then the whole patch of
skin might come off. The hospital in Wanjia Forced Labor Camp refuses to treat
them and often use steel spoons to scratch the scabies off, which results
extreme pain. At the same time practitioners were given black muddy water to
drink and were placed under surveillance 24 hours a day. The police often hit
and curse them. During this painful persecution, we were denied our basic human
rights. During the new year of 2002, 18 practitioners including myself went on a
hunger strike. We were using our lives to protect the truth and expose the evil.
We want to be released because we are innocent. In order to prevent further
tragedies from happening, I wrote to the head of the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp
and Minghui Net. Even though the head knew about our situation, he did nothing
to stop the guards and instead tried to force practitioners to give up their
belief. This resulted in the "1.18 incident" during which, five practitioners
were tortured almost to death at the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp hospital. I have
exposed numerous times on Minghui Net the violence at the Wanjia Forced Labour
Camp and called for the help of international organisations, governments and
kind hearted people. Ever since the articles have been published on Minghui Net,
the labor camp has become less violent. A lot is due to the support from
overseas. At the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp I went on a hunger strike for more than 100
days. They could no longer force-feed me through my nose. My nose became blocked
and I almost suffocated many times. At that time, blood and pus often flowed out
from my eyes. I was tortured both physically and mentally and I almost went
blind. Due to the fact that I was at the Wanjia Labor Camp's hospital, which is
part of the labor camp, and my case would also affect the provincial and city
police departments, an internal battle started within the police departments
because they did not know what to do with me. Some policemen would vent their
anger on me through force-feeding to torture me even further. Fabricating facts and persecuting practitioners financially During my detention, the police and "610 Office" tried to fabricate facts and
accuse me of "connecting with overseas" so that they could persecute me further. During my third arrest, after the 10th day, more practitioners
were arrested and all their money and a laptop were confiscated. Another two
practitioners were hung up and interrogated by the provincial police department.
Someone said that I had something to do with the case and soon after I was also
interrogated. They took out the so-called "evidence" which were the supposed
reasons for my unlawful arrest. When I did not co-operate, they threatened me
and said, "In a few days we will start torturing you. We have our ways of
dealing with you." They did not only torture me but also harassed my parents. In order to find
evidence of my "connecting with overseas", police even interrogated and detained
my sister who is not a practitioner. My assets were frozen and every time they
went to harass my family and friends they would always extort some money. Another event that involved fabricating facts and persecuting practitioners
financially has shaken the police departments and provincial authorities and was
considered as the "Second Biggest" Falun Gong case. The evil chief of the Public
Security Ministry of China Liu Jing was the person in charge. At that time I was
still being unlawfully detained and someone reported to the police that my
brother and I have connections with overseas Falun Gong practitioners. Due to
this, Luo Gan and his associates undertook a thorough investigation of my family
members by issuing orders from the central government to the local police and
using up more than one million Yuan of the country's money. Our family members
are all law-abiding citizens. I have eight sisters and most are businesswomen
and have nothing to do with Falun Gong since they do not practice. I have never
used money from overseas to do Dafa work and did not even know any overseas
practitioners. I don't even know the person who reported me. My overseas relatives said that secret agents had been following them for a
few months and even checked the rubbish they threw out for any suspicious items.
As soon as they returned to China they were followed everywhere. My relatives
had no choice but to go to the local police department and blame them by saying,
"Why are you making things so difficult for us? You are persecuting us for no
reason at all." The six months long investigation put enormous psychological pressure on my
relatives and financial pressure on their businesses. The number of phone calls
made by my relatives, which were tapped, amounted to more than 40. The
investigation went on for more than five months when it reached my mother who is
living overseas. My mother is 74 years old and was forced numerous times to
provide documents to the Chinese police to clear up certain facts. My mother
sent us some money and every cent is clear and has absolutely nothing to do with
"connections with overseas." After the six months long investigation ended, it
was proven that the entire case started from pure fabrication to frame me. Steadfast in my cultivation and exposing the persecution During my detention, I felt that I should expose the details of my
persecution to various departments of law enforcement so that they would have a
clear look at themselves. I continued to write letters on napkins to departments
such as the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp, the Province Law Enforcement Department,
the province and city police departments. Hospitals are supposed to be
charitable institutions dedicated to helping the ill. However, the Wanjia Labor
Camp's hospital is a terrorist institution that did not treat me but instead
almost killed me. The hospital also co-operated with the police to unlawfully
imprison me. I protest against such treatment, I want justice! I shall call for
justice until the end of my life. I wrote in my letter that this is my will and
also of our lives that are filled with bloodshed and tears. I told them to pass
this on to all kind hearted people and my relatives and everyone who knows me. I
wrote letters on a 1.5 meters long piece of toilet tissue (approximately 5
feet). While I was writing the letters, the police came in a few times to search
for them but did not find anything. Practitioners also helped me to ward off the
police. Two days after I finished writing the letter, authorities from the Law
Enforcement Department came to check the labor camp. When they came into my
hospital room, I gave a letter to them. The policeman tried to snatch it away,
but the person performing the check quickly placed it into his pocket. Other
letters were brought out by kind-hearted people. My letters quickly spread to the respective departments and soon no one dared
to force- feed me because they were afraid that I would die in the labor camp. A
few nurses went to the head of the labor camp to complain because they were
scared that I might die and they would have to take responsibility for it. One day in April, two police officers came and said to me, "We can no longer
keep you here. Your case has entirely exhausted us." At that time, my health was
very bad. I could not stand and both of my eyes were running blood and pus and I
could not open them. The policemen thought that I had become blind. They were
very scared and quickly left. The labor camp was scared to bear the
responsibility so they quickly transferred me to the Harbin City Hospital where
I was put under the surveillance of 11 security guards. Due to my health, I was released on May 8 and went home to recover. Then I
transferred to Saudi Arabia. Today I have finally arrived in Canada and have
fully regained my freedom. All of my experiences verify the facts of the persecution of Falun Gong
practitioners in China, and this is only one part of what tens of thousands of
practitioners in China are going through right now. I call upon the support of
the international community and all kind-hearted people to continue with us in
our efforts to end this cruel persecution.
