As of December 31, 2001, 19 Falun Dafa practitioners, including 11 women, have been illegally sent to labor camp by the police department of Yangshu Town, Dehui City since July 20^th 1999. Two practitioners were released due to unsatisfactory health conditions. The Falun Dafa practitioners sent to the labor camp include: Zhao Jinmin (F), Qu Zhonghe, Qu Rongying (F), Zhang Wenfeng, Zhang Gaofeng, Wang Zhizhen (F), Qu Rongbin, Zhao Xishun, Jiang Wenqin (F), Zhao Yuqin (F), Wu Junxia (F), Yin Yueling (F), Li Chunyan (F), Wang Xibo, Gao Xiubo (F), Zhang Chunqi, Liu Lianbo, Sun Yuzhen (F), and Xu Qingrong (F).

Zhang Gaofeng was home sleeping when illegally apprehended by the Yangshu policemen. Angered at the interference of Zhang's family members who tried to reason with them, the police forced the underdressed man into the car in the cold of winter and sent him to the labor camp.

Yangshu police are also guilty of many accounts of extortion. The following Falun Dafa practitioners have been illegally fined and/or detained. In the autumn of 1999, two practitioners were caught studying Falun Dafa together and detained for 19 days in Dehui detention center along with practitioners Qu Zhonghe and Shi Lijin , who were detained there for 75 days after being taken from their autumn harvest work. The police station extorted over 3,000 yuan from Shi Lijin (Translator's note: an average urban worker's monthly salary is about 500 yuan). Because Qu and Shi were the main laborers at home, their autumn harvests were delayed during their long absence. Liu Junwen, Bi Haifen, Wang Linge, and Ge Fujiang were illegally apprehended from their homes. Bi Haifen was fined 500 yuan. Practitioner Qu Rongbin was detained for 15 days because he tried to stop police from confiscating his home. Police extorted for 500 yuan from practitioner Tong Qinghua, who was taken from her home on January 30^th 2000, and illegally detained in Dehui detention center for 17 days. That night, practitioner Wang Yumei was also taken from her home and fined for 1,000 yuan at the police station. This police station illegally obtains practitioners' fingerprints by force under threat of arrest. Facing illegal detention, extortion and forced labor, the practitioners do not show fear, but encourage others to improve their study of Truth, Compassion, and Forbearance, thereby bringing an end to this persecution.

A Fa conference [translator's note: an infrequent gathering where Falun Dafa Practitioners join to share experiences] was successfully held on March 1^st 2000 in a practitioner's home. Yangshu police station and Dehui police department were informed and blocked the practitioners in the house. Three practitioners, Qu Zhonghe, Qu Rongying and Zhang Wenfeng were immediately sent to labor camp, while others were illegally detained and fined. Practitioner Zhao Xishun was fined 2,000 yuan; Gao Deping was fined 1,000 yuan; Wang Zhongbin, Qu Zhongfen, Dong Benqin, Qu Rongbao and Ma Jinglan were each fined 500 yuan.

Yangshu police also practice "economical interception", whereby huge sums of money are extorted from practitioners who are dedicated or have traveled to Beijing to appeal. Dafa practitioner Wu Junxia was taken from her home in the year 2000, illegally detained for half a month and fined 500 yuan. She was caught again in Tianjin city when she went to Beijing to appeal in February 2001. Yangshu policemen extorted 300 yuan and sentenced her to one year in a labor camp. Practitioner Gao Wenzhi was illegally detained for 15 days for participating in Fa conference and fined 500 yuan. Apprehended again when she appealed in Beijing in 2001, police extorted 700 yuan at that time and 3,000 yuan afterwards. The following amounts have been extorted by "economical interception" practices of the Yangshu police: 1,500 yuan from Shen Dan, 3,000 yuan from Zou Shuhua, 3,000 yuan from Zhang Li, 3,000 yuan from Lu Junyan, 3,500 yuan from Ma Jinghua, 4,500 yuan from Yu Haiying, 500 yuan from Chen Jiamei, 3,500 yuan from Sun Yuying, 3,000 yuan from Chang Yafen, 500 yuan from Hou Guoying, 500 yuan from Chen Jiaying, 2,000 yuan from Cheng Chunfang, 500 yuan from Dong Deqin, 500 yuan from Shi Jingfeng, 500 yuan from Wang Honghua, 3,000 yuan from Ma Li, 3,000 yuan from Yu Shijing, 6,000 yuan from Jiang Wenying, 5,000 yuan from Sun Yuzhen, 3,000 yuan from Han Chunyan, 3,300 yuan from Li Hongzhen, 1,500 yuan from Wang Zhonghua, 1,000 yuan from Song Shujie, 1,000 yuan from old lady Cheng, 2,000 yuan from Ma Guihua, 500 yuan from Li Baochang, 500 yuan from Li Chunyan, 300 yuan from Wang Guocai, 500 yuan from Hao Guiqin, 500 yuan from Gao Xiubo, 500 yuan from Li Fengmei.

Practitioners from families unable to pay the fines face longer detention time or labor camp sentencing. When Cheng Chunfang's family member refused to pay the fine, police illegally detained her husband until they received the money. Uncompleted statistics show that 40 to 50 practitioners that have been extorted by Yangshu police station over the past two years, yielding about 100,000 yuan. This persecution leaves many families broken and many suffering economically. Some children can't afford to go to school. Some practitioners can't cultivate their land, and others are heavily burdened with debt.
