Gazette (Montreal): Dissident freed

The husband of Montreal painter Jinyu Li has been freed after two years in Chinese prisons. Shen Li Lin was arrested in July 1999 for demonstrating for the release of jailed fellow members of the Falun Gong spiritual movement.

He is expected to return to Montreal to rejoin Li, who spent only a few days in jail in China before being deported to Canada. They had been married only nine months when they were arrested.
