A Horrible Morning in China By Zhang Cuiying
(Clearwisdom.net) Two days after a painting exhibition was held in the Ukraine, a Ukrainian
TV Station broadcast an interview regarding the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China and
the symbolism of the paintings. The reporter invited me to the station to prepare a special morning
program of 10 to 20 minutes. Because it is a morning program, I described the beautiful morning
taking place that day in Ukraine and then recounted a horrible morning I had experienced in China. "This morning in the Ukraine, the sunshine is especially beautiful. With the beautiful
morning, people started their day happily. However, the morning in Tiananmen Square in China was so
horrible. It was the morning of December 31, 1999. At 7:30 a.m., I followed a tourist group in my
hotel and went to Tiananmen Square to see the ceremony of raising the national flag. When I saw an
Australian Falun Gong practitioner (named "Simon") and his family, I was excited and
greeted them. However, as soon as they left, about five ferocious plainclothes policemen dragged me
to a police van and brutally beat me. Bruises and cuts covered my head. Then they escorted me to the
Tiananmen Police Station. Police arrested over 50 Falun Gong practitioners that morning, including
women from the countryside and the elderly. The police punished them by forcing them to stand side
by side, and then proceeded to knock their heads together. I could not imagine why the police were
dealing with them in such brutal fashion. As if handling a group of repeated felons, they horribly
abused these gentle people who follow 'Truthfulness, Benevolence, Forbearance.'" On this morning in the Ukraine, as I sat there delivering my story to the program directors, they
listened attentively with tears in their eyes. They said, "We believe that the terror will end.
We hope you'll be able to joyfully return to China." Posting date: 2/7/2002
