Records of Forced Labor, Torture, and Extortion Imposed on Dafa Practitioners in Yilan County, Heilongjiang Province
(Clearwisdom.net) Ma Weidong, a 36-year-old male practitioner from Yilan
County, went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in October 1999. While being
detained in Qiliqu Detention Center in Changping (a suburb of Beijing),
he was force to pay 400 Yuan (Chinese Currency) for an army quilt and a
set of prisoner's clothing. He was unlawfully kept in detention for a month,
during which time he was subjected to various tortures such as being shocked
with an electric baton, and being handcuffed diagonally behind the back with a
wooden stick twisted through to increase the pressure exerted, with his hands
also being pulled up very high behind him and kept that way from 9a.m. to 2.p.m.
While in Beijing, policeman Zhang Yi confiscated 1,600 Yuan from him. After
returning to Yilan, policeman Li Yichang extorted money from him twice, a total
of 6,000 Yuan.
An Lihua, a 37-year-old female practitioner from Yilan, went to Beijing to
appeal for Falun Gong and was illegally detained for twenty-three days. During
her detention, she was whipped with a leather belt. After returning home, local
policeman Li Yichang extorted 3,000 Yuan from her.
Sun Peichen, a 42-year-old male practitioner from the Yinglan region of Yilan
County, was unlawfully detained for fifteen days because he refused to cooperate
with a forced brainwashing class which was held on July 25, 1999. He went to
Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong on January 16, 2000, and was illegally detained
for 100 days. On May 21, 2001, he was taken away from work by the County Police,
and sentenced to one year in a forced labor camp. Before he was sent to Harbin,
his family went to visit him in the detention center, but the guards refused to
allow them to meet him.
Wei Fenglan, a 45-year-old female practitioner employed by Yilan Winery was
unlawfully detained for eight months beginning in April 2000 for speaking the
truth about Falun Gong. The Yilan Police extorted 2,000 Yuan from her. During
detention, she was subjected to long interrogations, some lasting up to 12
hours. She went through hunger strike twice in the detention center, and was
then sent to a forced labor camp for a two-year term. She had to be released
early from the camp, as serious ulcers started to develop on her body as a
result of the long-term abuse.
Tian Yulan, a 57 year-old female practitioner employed by the Yilan City
Cotton Factory was unlawfully detained from November 2000 until March 18, 2001
for going to Beijing to appeal. The Public Security Bureau and the 610 Office
extorted 7,000 Yuan from her. In addition, Kangyuan Police Station extorted
2,000 Yuan from her, Yilan City Authority 400 Yuan, and Yilan Second Detention
Center 300 Yuan.
Li Yanjun, a 41-year-old male practitioner from Yilan City of Yilan County,
was arrested in mid- February 2000 for appealing for Falun Gong in Beijing.
Heilongjiang Province Police held him for one day, then Yilan City's Office in
Beijing kept him for three days. Yilan Police then transported him back in
handcuffs, and kept him in detention for forty days. The police tortured him
with brutal beatings, pushed needles into his fingertips, and other means of
torture. Late in November 2000, Li was found distributing Falun Gong
information, and was brutally beaten by policemen Liu Yuhe and Gao Chen for
three hours. Li's chest area hurt for over half a month from the beatings of Liu
Yuhe. Li was unlawfully detained for over forty days. The individuals mainly
responsible are Zhang Huanyuo and Long Deqing.
Tang Bin, a 35 year-old male practitioner from Yinglan Village, Yilan County
of Heilongjiang Province, was illegally detained for one-and-a-half months for
going to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in January 2000. He was brutally
beaten during detention. He was searched while being held in the
"Provincial Office" in Beijing; all his money (amount unknown) was
taken from him. The village government also extorted 2,000 Yuan from him. Then
on March 1, 2000, the County Public Security extorted a further 3,000 Yuan from
Tang, and the County's 610 Office extorted another 2,000 Yuan.
Yu Juan, a 39-year-old female practitioner from Yinglan Village, Yilan
County, Heilongjiang, was detained for going to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong
on January 6, 2000. A person named Cheng from Yilan's Liason Office in Beijing
extorted 230 Yuan from her. On her return, she was illegally detained for 35
days. On February 25th, the Village Authority extorted 2,000 Yuan
from her, and then on February 26th, the County Police extorted 3,000
Yuan, and the County's 610 Office extorted 2,000 Yuan.
Xing Guochun, a 68-year-old male practitioner from Yinglan, Yilan County, was
unlawfully detained for around forty days for going to Beijing to appeal for
Falun Gong on January 16, 2000. At the end of January, the Village Police
extorted 2,000 Yuan from him; and at the end of February, Yilan County Police
extorted 3,000 Yuan, and the County 610 Office 2,000 Yuan.
Zhang Jiuhui, a 23-year-old female practitioner from Yilan, was arrested and
shipped back from Beijing in October 1999. The police interrogated her;
detective Li Baihe whipped her hands, face and head with a leather belt until
she almost fainted. The second day after she was thrown into detention, Li Baihe
and Han Yunjie interrogated her again, whipping her hands and striking her head
and neck with electric batons. When the baton ran out of electricity, they used
handcuffs, twisting her fingers, and pressing her hand on the table with the
handcuffs, leaving permanent marks on her hand. In February 2000, she was taken
into detention just for practising the Falun Gong exercises outdoors. The police
whipped her and shocked her all over with electric batons. Blisters swelled
under her chin, and a burning smell came from her head; red welts formed all
over her neck, and legs, and her hands were swollen. They also used a teaspoon
to hit her hands, scrape her ribs, and used various other means of torture until
her whole body went into spasm. Her right hand remained lifeless and numb for
nearly one month; her hands still bear scars, and she has frequent chest pain.
Policeman Zhang Huanyuo extorted 5,000 Yuan from her in October 1999 and another
3,000 Yuan in February-March 2000. She went to Beijing to appeal on October 1,
2001, and was detained in Beijing. While she was being violently interrogated,
she had muscle spasms all over her body. She was given anti-spasm medicine
through a tube in her nose, which caused bloody foam to issue from her mouth.
She had such bad muscle cramps through the night that she was sent back home.
She then suffered from a continually bleeding nose, and was unable to breathe
through her nose for nearly a month. After her release, she did not dare go home
for fear of more relentless persecution. She now travels from place to place,
and has no permanent residence.
