When the evil force was planning brainwashing classes in July 2001, absolutely determined not to cooperate with the evil, Li Mei (alias) and another lady practitioner from Hebei Province set off from their homes. North-bound, they began their Fa-Rectification journey. They travelled through many cities and counties, and wherever they went, Dafa promotion material was posted everywhere. They would not stop even when their feet were covered with blisters.

On October 12, they were discovered by plainclothes police and sent to a brainwashing class back in their home county. The next day they were taken to the county's Detention Centre. After being detained for 15 days, Li Mei was sent to a brainwashing class. One day a policeman said to Li Mei: "Let me tell you, this place is a major 'transformation base.'" Li Mei answered: "I will not change, I will not give up cultivation." Another policeman continued: "[name unknown] was transformed after being sent to the labor camp." Li Mei: "I won't follow others. Our Teacher said: If you want to be a practitioner, it all depends on cultivating your heart and on you, yourself being enlightened since there are no role models."(Zhuan Falun) There was nothing else to say; they took her into another room with two female "assistant brainwashers." One of them was the deputy director in a local court. Li Mei promoted Dafa to them, clarifying the truth, telling them that the so-called "transformed" people have in fact not changed in their hearts.

Thinking that she had spotted an opportunity, the Deputy Director said: "Then why couldn't you also do what they did? Couldn't you just say one sentence that is actually not true?" Li Mei answered, "I cannot. Being untruthful should be regarded as a bad thing even in society, let alone for cultivators. We cannot say things that are untrue." Li Mei also sent forth righteous thoughts to eliminate the evil behind the two "brainwashers" and the evil retreated.

One day, three policemen came to pressure Li Mei to write letters renouncing her belief in Falun Dafa. She refused. They then wrote the letters themselves and required Li Mei to sign. Li Mei firmly refused them, sending forth righteous thoughts at the same time. Their evil plan again met with failure.

Li Mei started her hunger strike. Afraid of being responsible for her possible death, the police sent Li Mei home after a week. Two days later she was again forcefully taken to the detention center. One day around four to five policemen came. One of them said: "We are taking you home today." Li Mei answered: "I won't go back home unless the Fa has been rectified. If you let me go, you must let all the other detained Dafa practitioners go." The policemen threatened, "If you do not listen, we'll send you to the brainwashing class." Li Mei: "I will not 'transform'." Police: "If you do not transform, we'll send you to the Labor Camp." Li Mei: "What reason do you have to send me to forced labor? I shall not go." One of them (who appeared to be the leader) said: "We've transformed so many, but we haven't seen one that is as tough as you yet." The police then started to drag Li Mei to the car by force. Li Mei shouted: "Falun Dafa is good!" Her voice echoed throughout the whole center. Around 3:00 p.m., Li Mei was taken to Gaoyang Labor Camp in Baoding Area (Hebei Province). The Center gave Li Mei a medical checkup, and found her blood pressure to be as high as 220. One of the heads of the labour camp said: "Her blood pressure is too high, we cannot keep her here." During the medical check, Li Mei constantly held on to one thought from beginning to end: "I cannot stay here." In a repeat medical check the next day, her blood pressure was still too high.

Officials from Li Mei's home county came to the labour camp to pick her up. The Deputy Secretary of the county's "610 Office" said to her viciously: "Li Mei, even if you are a piece of steel, I am going to melt you down." Li Mei said: "Pure gold is not afraid of the furnace." Her answer silenced the Deputy Secretary. On the way home, one of the two policemen escorting Li Mei said: "You don't look sick," She said: "Dafa practitioners do not have illnesses, only you have illnesses." The other policeman quickly said: "Yes, yes, we have illnesses." After Li Mei returned home, the evil was afraid that she might go to Beijing, so officers from the county's "610 Office" were sent to her home to keep watch over her in shifts. When these people felt bored with nothing to do, they played poker games. Li Mei disallowed the game. They said: "We will not gamble." But she said firmly, "My home is not an entertainment center." Li Mei put out the Deputy Secretary's cigarette butts, and said to him: "My home is a place for cultivation, a pure place. You cannot pollute it like this." Early in the morning, when the 610 officials arrived, Li Mei said to them clearly and firmly: "If you want to come in, you must proclaim Falun Dafa is good. Otherwise you'll have to stay outside." Her voice carried such energy. Outside the door, there was chaos: this person wanted that person to say it, that person asked another person to do it. In the end, a Court Director shouted: "Dafa is good."

Under such circumstances, the County Party Secretary told his superior in a telephone report: "We cannot transform her. When we go to work on her, we'll have to say 'Dafa is good' first, in order for her to let us in. We've done that already. It looks like it is going to be very difficult for us to transform her; we'll be transformed by her if it continues like this. What do you think we should do?" Before long the superior answered: "Then just withdraw." The Evil's plot ended in complete failure. This is exactly what our revered Teacher has taught us: "Indestructible righteous faith in the cosmos's Truth forms benevolent Dafa disciples' rock-solid, Diamond-Like Bodies, it frightens all evil, and the light of Truth it emanates makes the unrighteous elements in all beings' thoughts disintegrate. However strong the righteous thoughts are, that's how great the power is. ("Also in a Few Words", Essentials for Further Advancement II)
