Hongwei District Court in Liaoyang City, Liaoning Province Blatantly Perverts the Law During a Trial of Dafa Practitioners

At 8:30 a.m. on April 11, 2002, the Hongwei District People's Court conducted a secret trial in order to illegally sentence Dafa practitioners Dong Yanmei, and Lu Yanying.

Dong Yanmei: female, 31 years old, is an associate engineer at Liaoyang Chemical Corporation.

Lu Yanying: female, 30 years old, is a unit manager at Liaoyang Chemical Corporation.

The public was not allowed to observe this trial, as only those who received official tickets could get in. Each Party branch office of the Hongwei district government received only one ticket. Observers were not allowed to bring cameras or bags. The audience was prearranged, and all entryways were under tight security and guarded by police. Everyone had to present a ticket before being admitted, and people could not casually exit and reenter.

The trial was conducted by the chief judge, other judges, and the public prosecutor. There were no juries and no defense lawyers, since the court did not allow Falun Gong practitioners to retain defense lawyers.

When Dong Yanmei, and Lu Yanying walked towards the bench, they were calm and they had smiles on their faces.

The chief judge asked loudly: "Dong Yanmei, why do you practice Falun Gong?"

Dong Yanmei replied: "I do it because Falun Gong is great. I had poor health before practicing, but I am well now. Falun Gong teaches us to become good citizens by following the standard of Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance." The chief judge rudely interrupted her even before she finished her sentence.

One person in the audience got up and said while walking out: "These two Dafa practitioners are truly magnificent. They are amazing." The trial was wrapped up in a hurry. The chief judge then announced that he sentenced Dong Yanmei to 7 years, and Lu Yanying to 9 years in jail on the so-called charge of "Anti Party and the nation, disturbing public order."

There was absolutely no fairness in this so-called public trial.
