A Taxi-Driver's Nighttime Encounter with Knife-Wielding Gangsters: Clarifying the Truth to the Predestined

A while ago, a practitioner asked me to help her son with his taxi-driving business. So I took a driving shift which started at 6 PM daily.

On this particular night at around 10 PM, I saw two men waving at me, so I pulled over and stopped where they stood. The elder of the two men was under 30, (hereafter referred to as A), and he had round, shrewd-looking eyes with a hidden glint of viciousness. The younger one was in his early 20's (hereafter referred to as B), and he stood behind A, looking around furtively. So A sat in the back seat and B sat next to me in the front.

After a while, A asked me: "Most taxi drivers drive in a team of two at night, how come you're driving alone? Aren't you afraid of gangsters?" At that time I wanted to take the opportunity to clarify the truth to them from a third-party point of view. I replied: "Everything has its karmic relationship. Furthermore, good and bad will be rewarded accordingly. As long as I don't commit wrongdoing, nothing bad will happen to me!"

A said: "That's not necessarily the case. Take me for example. I don't think I'm bad, why don't good things ever happen to me?" I answered, "Whether one does a good or bad deed, when the time comes, there will definitely will be retribution, namely, good and bad will be rewarded accordingly." A said: "Why is it that the more I listen to you, the more it sounds like what Falun Gong has talked about?" So I asked him in return: "Have you ever learned to practice Falun Gong?" A replied: "I haven't. But a lot of people in our area practiced. I heard that Falun Gong practitioners are all good people." I asked him again: "Do you believe in Falun Gong?" A replied: " I believe in Falun Gong." I said: "Then why don't you practice Falun Gong?" A replied: "Who is going to feed me if I practice that?" I said: "You just do your own cultivation practice in addition to doing whatever you should do. I understand Falun Gong practitioners. They don't smoke, don't drink and don't lose their tempers. And they are even rewarded with blessings!" A suddenly stopped talking completely.

When we passed a small bridge, A pointed toward the east and signaled me to drive for another 500 meters. Sitting next to me, B suddenly pulled out a knife which glistened coldly. He forced me to quickly stop. When I stopped and got out of the car, I asked them: "What do you want to do anyway?" A replied: "It's almost New Years' Eve. My family does not have money to buy food. We have all lost our jobs, and my wife just gave birth to our newborn baby. I really don't have any other choice, so I'm out to find some money to spend." As he was talking to me, he put his hands into his dark-colored, heavy suitcase.

There I was, in the middle of nowhere, deep in the quiet night, and suddenly running into something like that. I was really stunned and didn't now how to react. Then, I heard Teacher's words in my ears: "Why do you encounter these problems? They are all caused by your own karma. We have already eliminated for you many, numerous pieces of it, leaving only that tiny bit which is divided into tribulations at different levels for upgrading your xinxing, tempering your mind, and removing your different attachments. These are all your own tribulations that we use to improve your xinxing, and you will be able to overcome them. As long as you upgrade your xinxing, you can overcome them. Unless you, yourself do not want to do so, you can make it, provided you want to overcome them." (Zhuan Falun) Yes, this is all caused by my own karma. I must conduct myself with a high standard. I must treat them with a kind and benevolent heart. I need to seize all available opportunities to spread Dafa well.... While I was thinking, they held the knife against me and searched my body. Meanwhile, I started to laugh fearlessly and loudly, and my laughter seemed to shake heaven and earth.

A and B were stunned by my laughter. I said: "What you want is nothing but some money? But you have to let me finish talking. Why do you take this path? Who told you to do so?"

A replied: "Jiang has pushed me into doing this. Otherwise, who would have given up a good and comfortable life to look for trouble on a cold night like this?"

I said: "We are all the same victims. You know what? Jiang has spent several billion Yuan per year to wiretap and persecute Falun Gong practitioners. I'm a Falun Gong practitioner." Then I took out two truth clarification flyers from my pocket and handed the flyers to them. A and B took the flyers with both hands and continued listening to me.

I went on and said: "You also just said you believed in Falun Gong. Currently, if Falun Gong practitioners are caught by police departments, they'll be detained, sentenced, put into forced labor camps, beaten to injury or even to death. You have probably heard about this as well. Under such circumstances, they continue to fulfill their task of clarifying the truth to world's people. Do you know the reason why they are doing this? This is indeed to offer salvation to you. Our meeting today is of great karmic relationship. Your path is indeed leading to a dead end. In order to practice Falun Gong, to be a good person and to be an even better person, I went to Beijing to appeal and clarify the truth. I went through being arrested, detained, beaten up, losing my job and having my wages withheld by my work unit. I have put aside the thought of life and death, and have endured hardship that is beyond your imagination. You know what? Had I not been practicing Falun Gong, I might have ended up just like you, perhaps even worse than you. Because I had practiced martial arts ever since I was a kid, and whenever I ran into something like this, I always wanted to make sure that justice was well served."

I then turned to B and said: "That gadget of yours is not going to work very well on me. Put it away quickly!" B immediately put the knife away. I then said: "Come over here." I put Teacher's new articles tape in my car's cassette recorder and turned it on to let them listen to. They listened quietly and very seriously. After about 20 minutes, A held his head with his hands; then with his hands pounding his chest and his feet stamping on the ground, he said regretfully: "What's the matter with me today? Why did I do such a foolish thing anyway?" He kept apologizing to me. I looked at them and said: "We indeed have a karmic relationship. If you truly realize that what you have done is wrong, then recognizing your shortcoming is improving yourself. Correcting that shortcoming of yours is like being a good person." A asked: "How do I practice Falun Gong anyway?" I replied: "You had better read the book Zhuan Falun first. If you can follow Teacher's teaching in the book, you can then start practicing the exercises. The 5 sets of exercise are very simple." A said: "Can you get me a book?" Having made some progress, I told A and B: "Let's go home. OK?" A and B exchanged eye contact and said unanimously: "OK! Let's go home!"

When we were approaching my home, I said: "Come. Come over and have a seat at my home. I'll give you a copy of Zhuan Falun to take home to read." They felt my sincerity, so they came home with me unguardedly. At that time my wife and kids were all asleep. I woke my wife up and told her: "I have this friend, his wife just had a newborn baby, his father is sick, and he has no money. Go check to see if we have any money at home?" So my wife took out the only 300 Yuan RMB we had at home, she also gave them a copy of Zhuan Falun. Taking the book with both hands, A said: " I'll return it to you as soon as possible. I will never forget you guys. You are really good people."

On the third night, A and B came to my home. A said, after he went home he told his father what had happened. His father was so moved that he was speechless, and finally said: "Falun Gong is just like my Dad!". After his wife heard what had happened, she took the book and read through the whole book from cover to cover without a break. She also said she wanted to practice Falun Gong. A then added, one of his brothers was a deputy chief of a city's police department. At the beginning, his brother said that Falun Gong was [Jiang regime's slanderous term omitted]. After A met me, and after he read the Falun Dafa book and expressed his intent to practice Falun Gong, his brother said: "Whenever I said Falun Gong was bad, to tell you the truth, I felt so bad in my mind." A continued to say: "These past few days I haven't done anything, I just wanted to read the book. The first thing I would do after I woke up was read a little bit of Zhuan Falun." Lifting his clothes up, he pointed to something--it was indeed a big pocket with Zhuan Falun inside. He said: "I sewed the pocket myself so that I can carry it with me wherever I go." He then started to laugh joyfully and innocently. His laughter was sincere and contagious, so I started to laugh, too...
