ST. Joan's International Alliance United States Section
April 30, 2002
The Hon. Kofi Annan
Dear Secretary General Annan:
I am writing on behalf of the United States Section of the St. Joan's
International Alliance, an NGO, to bring your attention to the plight of the
members of Falun Gong who are experiencing repression in China and elsewhere
because of their beliefs in Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance. It was
particularly disappointing that the recent meeting of the United Nations Human
Rights Commission in Geneva was unable even to consider their situation.
As a member of an NGO that is primarily concerned with the human rights of
women, I feel that it is also my obligation to be equally concerned with the
human rights of others particularly in the area of religion and philosophical
creeds. The United Nations is far more influential than the mass media in the
United States would allow us to believe. I urge you not to underestimate the
value of the voice of the United Nations and to use that voice to remind the
world of what the right thing to do is.
Please be assured that your work and constant efforts to make this world a
better, more peaceful place for all of us is genuinely appreciated even if not
as publicly acknowledged as they should be. Don't give up.
Sincerely yours,
(Signature)
