Letter to Washington DC Police from Falun Gong Practitioners Who Peacefully Appeal Every Day at the Chinese Embassy

Dear Officers,

We regret that we are not able to speak to you in fluent English. However, with this note, we hope you will understand more about why we are here, why we are appealing and why it's necessary for us to appeal.

We are Falun Gong practitioners. Falun Gong is a peaceful Qigong Exercise/Cultivation [self-improvement] practice. Falun Gong teaches people "Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance." The practice not only helps people to have healthy bodies and peaceful minds, but it also promotes high morality. Currently there are 100 million people practicing Falun Gong in China and all over the world.

You must have heard that the President of China, Jiang Zemin, has unconstitutionally banned Falun Gong and persecutes Falun Gong practitioners. There are two reasons. First, Communism is atheistic, so it doesn't support spiritual seeking or belief in God. Second, President Jiang discovered in a government survey several years ago that the number of Falun Gong practitioners exceeded that of Party members. He then felt that his "power" was threatened and that he had become less popular among the citizens because of Falun Gong. For these reasons, more than 400 Falun Gong practitioners have been tortured to death in police custody since July of 1999; thousands were jailed without trials and millions of normal, happy lives were placed in jeopardy.

"Eradicate Falun Gong in three months!" President Jiang declared in 1999. Since then, he has since been using state-owned media, which constitutes the whole media industry in China, to slander Falun Gong. Even staged tragedies have been used to build hatred towards Falun Gong practitioners among Chinese citizens. Police violence against practitioners has become the norm. In one case, while a policeman beat up a woman on the street in Beijing and later raped her, no passers-by dared to help. This brutal crime went unpunished simply because she was a Falun Gong practitioner.

We all know that only top ranking government officials in China are able to travel to the United States. Thus, it's very crucial to help them to realize the goodness of Falun Gong and the truth behind the persecution in China. They should also be reminded that all citizens in China, like any other citizens in this world, are entitled to their basic rights. From our past experiences, most of the visitors did appreciate getting the information from us and took home the message as well. We believe that what we are doing here will make a big difference in the future because it helps more people in China learn the truth about Falun Gong and the persecution. Once the truth is revealed, Chinese people not only will stop participating in the persecution, but also will help to end this persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China.

Dear officer, here, we'd like to thank all of you very much for your kindness. You have been so supportive of our peaceful appeal. For the past two and a half years, we've been through rain and shine and even snowstorms together. Because of your dedication to your job, we are able to enjoy peace and freedom on this soil. We are very grateful. Wanting to be good citizens and show our gratitude for your service, we promise to follow the regulations and abide by the law. We don't wish to cause any extra burden for you. And also, on behalf of the less fortunate Falun Gong practitioners in China, we thank you for letting us make their voices heard.

As always, you will see us around the city, busy telling people the truth, until the day that the persecution of Falun Gong in China ends.
