Comprehensive Reports by the World Journal: Heavy Rainstorms Hit Fujian Province, More Than 50,000 Residences in Mingxi Are Affected

[Mingxi County, Fujian Province] According to a news report on June 18, a big
rainstorm, the likes of which has not been seen for the past 30 years, hit
Mingxi County of Guyi in northwestern Fujian. As many as 50,000 people were
affected. The rainstorm caused the direct economic loss of nearly 50 million
Chinese Yuan (1.6 million US dollars, 500 Yuan is the average monthly income for an urban Chinese
worker). In addition, more than 6,300 mu [Chinese unit of area,
equals 1/15 of a hectare] were affected with nearly 6,000 mu losing
their harvests.
[Fuzhou, Fujian Province, June 16] Due to continuous and heavy
rainstorms, at 4:30 a.m. of June 15, a mountain in Dalu village of Chengguan
town, Minqing County, Fuzhou city had a large landslide of mud and rock,
fortunately no one was injured or killed. [Fujian Province, June 16] During recent days, rainstorms hit the big
mountain area in northern and northwestern parts of Fujian Province, the biggest
flood of the year appeared in the Min river basin.
Heavy rains hit the middle and north part of Fujian Province, which caused
dangerous situations along the Yingxia and Waifu railway lines. Up to June 16,
dangerous situations such as mountain landslides, road sinking, and culvert
blockage have occurred one after another at the Jizhou railway station, at the
north part of the Yingxia line, at the Shangyou railway station, at the middle
part of the Yingxia line, and at the route between Nanping and Xiqin on the
Waifu line.
