  • Nikkei: Chinese authorities expelled two Japanese women on May 25, 2002. This is the third time this year that Japanese citizens have been expelled from China.
  • Asahi Shimbun: Two Japanese Falun Gong practitioners were expelled by the Beijing Police Department on May 25, 2002. These two 31-year-old women were arrested because they went to Beijing to appeal for the release of all arrested Falun Gong practitioners in China. Another 37-year-old Chinese woman who lives in Niigata was detained at the same time.
  • Sankei: Japanese Falun Gong practitioners Yoko Horie (31 years old) and Ayumi Abe (31 years old) who live in Niitsu City of Niigata County were expelled by Chinese authorities. A 36-year-old Chinese woman who lives in Niigata went to Beijing with them, and she is still being detained.
  • The Chugoku Shimbun: Two Japanese Falun Gong practitioners, Yoko Horie and Ayumi Abe (both 31 years old) were expelled by Chinese authorities. Horie arrived in Beijing on May 20 with a Japanese travel agency but she lost contact with them on the evening of May 24. Before she went to Beijing, she sent an announcement about "Appealing in Tiananmen Square for the legalization of Falun Gong in China" to the media. A Niigata County resident, the 36-year-old Chinese woman who went to Beijing with them, is still being detained.
