A Choice of Conscience Made by a Member in the "610 Office"

(Clearwisdom.net) I am a staff member of low rank in a "610 Office." [The "610 Office" is a bureau specifically created by the Chinese government to persecute Falun Gong. It has absolute power over each level of administration in the Party, as well as over the political and judiciary branches.] My conscience and personal sense of justice led me to write an article to submit to Minghui Net (Chinese version of Clearwisdom), called "The Awakening of a Staff Member in a '610 Office.'" Although I am not a practitioner of Falun Gong, once I'd finished writing the letter I found myself faced with a difficult decision. Should I leave the "610 Office," a place full of evildoers, or should I stay, and follow my conscience and sense of justice in my actions rather than the direct orders I receive from higher levels? To whom should my duty lie? If I leave the "610 Office," my colleagues would hardly be able to rely on me to tell them about the outside world -- about the truth of Falun Gong. You see, it was I who told them what Falun Gong truly is. It was I who told them some of the wonderful things that Master Li Hongzhi has said. It was I who gave them many CDs and videos from overseas clarifying the truth of Falun Gong and the persecution. Moreover, it was I who routinely scanned the Minghui website, selectively downloading articles and passing them on to others in the "610 Office."

It seems that these days the Jiang regime is struggling to hang on. The "610 Office" is used as the main "hatchet team." Orders from higher levels are becoming more and more blatant. "610 Offices" are to be given greater extra-judicial privileges. Conditions in the so-called "schools" where Falun Gong members receive "education and transformation" are planned to become increasingly oppressive, second only to labor camps in severity, becoming pseudo-prisons. A "610 Office" may detain Falun Gong practitioners with no need to bring charges or to follow any other formalities. The Ministry of Finance of the central government has given all staff members at all levels of "610 Offices" police rank and salary. Directors of "610 Offices are given high ranks, to ensure that they have the degree of control necessary to fulfill their duties. They are given the power to control the police as well as the media.

Today is the anniversary of the appointment of the first justices in the People's Republic of China. I ask the justices in China, "If there were an appeal from an illegally detained Falun Gong member, would you accept and hear the case? You are supposed to symbolize fairness and justice!" But, Master Li's benevolence of saving all sentient beings made me think that actually many lives in "610 Offices" can still be saved, because Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance is the universal characteristic and every person has some degree of a kind nature, and has only lost his nature while lost in the maze of human life. Most of the staff of "610 Offices" were appointed after 2001 (some months after the "610 Office" became a formal organization). They do not know what Falun Gong truly is. They have not read Zhuan Falun. They simply await notices from higher levels, and carry out their orders without knowing what they are doing. How pitiful they are! Yet I am different. I had been in the "610 Office" since it was created. My righteousness and sense of justice led Falun Gong practitioners to be willing to be near me, although I was not a Falun Gong practitioner. My wisdom and sincerity made my colleagues willing to listen to my words from the bottom of my heart and more willing to watch truth clarification CDs from overseas, such as, "Self-Immolation or Deceit?", "The Truth of Capital Murder Cases", "Falun Dafa Peaceful Journey", "Falun Dafa Spreads in the World" etc.

Sakyamuni told his disciples that those who violated the precepts would fall into hell without end. Master Li Hongzhi, of course, would not want his disciples to work in "610 Offices." After all, I am not a Falun Gong cultivator. I am just a Chinese citizen who has a sense of conscience and a sense of righteousness, a civil servant who worries about China's future and fate, one who is responsible for the future of our descendants. Our country and our people are at a crucial life-and-death juncture. That is, a battle between Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance and the evil of Jiang's regime. Just as an "internal government fax" said, "This is a war without the smoke of gunpowder."

Why does the regime persecute and crack down on Falun Gong, whose aim is to promote Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance, without hesitating to waste huge sums of money earned at the expense of taxpayers' sweat and toil? Some leaders claim that the reason is that the "Falun Gong issue must be dealt with appropriately, even if it means giving up three years of economic increase." "If money is lacking to deal with the Falun Gong issue, just reduce road construction by few kilometres." As a public official employed by the "610 Office," I know better than anyone that what the few ruling members of the dictatorial regime fear the most is their actions being exposed. What Falun Gong promotes is "truth" - telling the truth, being a truthful person. The inevitable result, then, is the complete exposure of what is truly going on. Now, speaking of government officials at higher and lower levels, how do many of them speak the truth? How many of them even dare to speak the truth? Most of them do not tell the truth. Many do not speak the truth even when they believe that they are. The results are terrible. Relatives and friends become enemies, and their lives become unhappy. The sincere trust that people need to rely on has disappeared totally. A few top officials contrive to deceive the people. There are no rights to free thought and free speech. Telling the truth and being a truthful person are fatal to Party officials. This is the reason that they gamble with losing the country and the fate of its people, and struggle toward a last battle for their own benefits.

The darkness will eventually pass away. The time is not distant when the dawn of Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance will illuminate this old oriental land. Therefore, as I said in "The Awakening of a Staff Member in a '610 Office'," "Falun Gong is the pride of the Chinese people, the hope of China and the sound of happiness for the whole world." I remember that a famous person once said, " China is a sleeping lion. Once he wakes up, he will stand proudly in the world." Yes! In China, the great law of Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance that Master Li Hongzhi teaches is like a stimulant to help awaken people. It helps to awaken China, the giant lion that has slept for a thousand years.

In order to realize the great Master Li Hongzhi's noble ambition of saving all sentient beings, I have decided to remain in the darkest "610 Office" to help the indestructible Falun Gong disciples to the best of my ability. With sincerity and courage, I clarify the truth to the "610 Office" employees around me, awakening their conscience and sense of justice, letting them see for themselves what they are truly doing.

For the sake of the justice and conscience still present in my heart, for the future and fate of the country, for the lofty belief in humankind, and to help allow the Buddha light of Falun Gong's Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance to illuminate the world and to bring happiness to all people, to lead people's hearts towards kindness and to purify their thinking, I will not obey the regime's orders in relation to the Falun Gong issue. Even if I am dismissed from my position, or go to court accused of "misconduct," I will not regret this decision!
