Ye Fenglin started to practice Falun Gong in 1996. At that time, he quit smoking and drinking and steadily improved his character. The village locals who knew him, all witnessed these positive changes.

Seeing that he died such a sudden death, they questioned the labor camp, "Why did such a healthy person die so suddenly in this labor camp?" Since the labor camp could not give any reasonable explanation of his death, they strongly requested an autopsy to find out the cause of his death.
