(Clearwisdom.net) Wang Shenggui was jailed since December
2000 simply because he was found reading Zhuan Falun. He went on a hunger
strike for over 40 days to protest the detention and died in July 2001. In spite
of Wang Shenggui's deteriorating condition, the police did not give him medical
attention.
Wang Shenggui, a 35-year-old male monk from Yuquan Taoist
Temple, Tianshui City, Gansu Province, started practicing Falun Dafa in 1999. In
December 2000, local police went to the temple and found a copy of Zhuan
Falun that Wang Shenggui was reading. They took Wang into custody at
Qincheng District Smokers' Center for 3 months. During that time, the police
tried to force him to write a guarantee statement, but Wang remained firm to his
beliefs. On March 9, 2001, he was sent back to his hometown in Min County, where
he was detained for another 4 months. Wang started a hunger strike there to
protest the illegal detention. While he was on hunger strike, the detention
center did not make any effort to keep him alive. More than forty days later,
Wang died in mid-July. Authorities of the Min County Detention Center lied to
his relatives that Wang died from illnesses and efforts were made to save him,
but to no avail.
