Returning Extra Change to an Owner of a Paint Store

(Clearwisdom.net) One day, two practitioners from a village went to buy 6 cans of paint from a paint store. Upon leaving, a practitioner discovered that the owner overlooked the price of one can, so he said to the owner, "You gave me too much change. I will return it to you." The owner was deeply moved by that practitioner's actions and said, "You are such good people. I met a really good person today."

These two practitioners thought that it was a good opportunity to clarify the truth. When coming across similar situations in the past, they always returned the money without saying anything. This did not have the effect of validating Dafa. Master said, "Every person you come into contact with in society is someone to clarify the truth to." ("To All Students at the Nordic Fa Conference") The practitioner then told a short story to the owner. There was a farmer who raised chickens, and one day he accidentally overcharged a customer a hundred Yuan for the eggs. The next day he rode his bike more than ten kilometers (6.2 miles) to tell that customer that he had miscalculated the price. The customer said with tears in his eyes, "I really met a good person, how many days I would have had to work to gain a hundred Yuan." The farmer said calmly, "If this incident happened in the past, I would not have acted this way. But because I practice Falun Gong now and Master has asked us to follow the principles of 'Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance;' we have to demand of ourselves to always think of others and to be a good person."

After listening to the story quietly, the owner of the paint store said, "Then you practice Falun Gong too?" In a sincere manner, the practitioner said, "Yes." The owner had a some doubts and said to himself, "People who practice Falun Gong, some are good and some are bad. On TV, some people went insane and committed self-immolation, isn't this frightening?" The two practitioners saw that the owner was being deceived by the lies on TV, so they both clarified the truth to the owner. They hoped that he would not believe the lies on TV nor have any bad feelings towards Dafa practitioners. Seeing the look on the owner's face turning from perplexity to understanding, the two practitioners knew that a life had been saved. While leaving, the owner said, "I believe that all you have said is true, you are all good people. I feel safe doing business with you and hope you will come again."
