Lecturer at Xinjiang Engineering Institute Unlawfully Sentenced to Thirteen Years in Prison

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Dafa practitioner Zhou Genzheng is 36 years old and until recently, was a lecturer at the Xinjiang Engineering Institute. In July 2000, he was fired by the Institute for practicing Falun Dafa. Recently he was sentenced to thirteen years in prison.

Zhou was a good teacher with good teaching skills and high moral standards. He was friendly, humble and considerate of others. He cared for his students. He was generally well regarded by his supervisors, colleagues and students. He was an honest and responsible person. He worked hard and always tried to improve himself.

On February 21, 2001, Zhou Genzheng was arrested in Beijing after a three-hour visit with his wife Zhang Jianling, who was not a practitioner. After Zhang Jianling strongly demanded justice for her husband, Zhou Genzheng was released. They went back to Xinjiang. At the end of March, Zhang Jianling, as well as her three sisters, were arrested. While they were in detention, several Dafa practitioners witnessed Zhang Jianling being handcuffed, shackled, cursed at, beaten and kicked by policemen. While suffering both physically and spiritually Zhang went on a hunger strike for three days to protest. Jiang's regime not only persecutes Falun Gong practitioners, but also detains and tortures their family members who don't practice Falun Gong. Zhang Jianling was eventually released, but she is extremely weak and often speaks about pain in her heart because she worries and misses her husband so much. She seems to have lost hope.

Recently when she met with Dafa practitioners, she tearfully related her sorrowful experiences. During holidays she shuts herself up at home and does not go out for several days. Quite often she cannot sleep through the entire night. She talks to the birds in the trees by standing in front of the window in the morning. Zhang who was kind-hearted, clear-minded and enjoyed talking and laughing is now absent-minded, traumatized and emaciated. There is no life in her eyes. We appeal to kind-hearted people around the world to show their concern.

At the beginning of April of this year, Zhou Genzheng was tried by the Beijing Intermediate People's Court. Nine practitioners, including Zhou, entered the court boldly speaking out in support for Falun Dafa and saying, "Falun Dafa is Good!" During the trial, Zhou Genzheng refused to accept the lawyer that was appointed by the court saying to the judge with the power of truth behind him, "The lawyer you have chosen will defend me with the assumption that I am guilty. I am not guilty." His righteous thoughts moved those who were present.

Despite everything, the court sentenced Zhou Genzheng to thirteen years in prison.
