Statement for August 12, 2002 Hong Kong Chater Garden Hunger Strike

Through this hunger strike we want to inform the world about the brutal persecution for the past three years in Mainland China.

Listen to an excerpt from a letter from Mr. Leo Harris, a practitioner who wrote to a Chinese consulate:

.... "Think about those people who might be your daughters raped by prisoners or guards;

your children who were murdered by your authorities;

your elderly parents who have been thrown into labour camps where they are subjected to great suffering;

your loved ones who have been force-fed brutally even to death;

your sisters and brothers who were forced to leave their homes and wander around without any income;

your nephews and nieces who lost their parents...

As a mother, daughter, wife, sister, what should you do?"

Through this hunger strike we also want to bring awareness to the spread of this persecution around the world. For example, Yuko Kaneko, a permanent resident of Japan, is being detained in a Labour Camp in China.

It is sad to see that China is being run by a paranoid man who abuses his power. We cannot understand why he is doing everything in his power to persecute his own good people, people that only want to practice their Qi Gong exercises and follow "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance."

We sit here for a better future for Hong Kong and for an end of the persecution in China, a persecution that never should have started.

Jiang Zemin has been torturing and murdering kind-hearted people for more than three years. Is this leadership?

Where does this lead to if one is abusing his power to persecute his own people; people who only want to be better people in their daily lives!

Where does this lead to if he abuses army, police and all political power to kill his own good people?

What will go on in Hong Kong and in the entire world if Jiang's policies are allowed to go on unchecked?
