A Verdict of Gross Injustice

(Clearwisdom.net) On August 15, 2002, the Hong Kong courts carried out a gross injustice in delivering a guilty verdict without any reasonable or justifiable grounds against 16 Falun Gong practitioners. The verdict shocked many around the world who value democracy, human rights, justice and freedom.

The 16 Falun Gong practitioners from Hong Kong, Switzerland and New Zealand had earlier staged a hunger strike to protest Jiang's order to shoot Falun Gong practitioners if they are seen putting up truth-clarifying flyers. Their 3-day hunger strike was to appeal to all peace-loving people around the world to help end the brutal persecution of Falun Gong by the Jiang regime. Their actions of justice and unselfishness deserve recognition and praise. However, the Hong Kong government, police and courts yielded to the pressure from the Jiang regime in Beijing, charged the 16 practitioners with "obstructing traffic" and "assaulting police" only hours after they started their 3-day hunger strike and delivered an unjust verdict. The evidence clearly shows that the practitioners were not in any way obstructing the sidewalk as they only took up 7 square metres out of the 140 square metres in the area, and the violent actions taken by the police in their arrest of the Falun Gong practitioners also tells a totally different story than the prosecution.

The verdict is unjust and clearly shows that the persecution of Falun Gong by the Jiang regime has already spread to Hong Kong. It indicates that democracy and freedom in Hong Kong have reached a grievous crisis point and the promise of "one country two systems" is rapidly disintegrating The verdict also indicates that the people in Hong Kong no longer enjoy the civil rights and freedoms they have long been proud of. The verdict is completely wrong and totally unacceptable.

We would like to call upon all the peace-loving people and governments around the world who promote democracy and freedom and who respect basic human rights to uphold justice, oppose this verdict of gross injustice and together put an end to the Jiang regime's crimes in its brutal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners and savage violation of their human rights.
