UK: Promoting Falun Dafa During the 2002 Edinburgh Fringe Festival (Photos)

(Clearwisdom.net)

During the week beginning 19th August, practitioners have been promoting Falun Dafa to the people of Scotland as part of the Edinburgh 2002 International Fringe Festival. Practitioners demonstrated the exercises of Falun Dafa as well as handing out leaflets informing about both the peaceful nature of Falun Dafa and the ruthless persecution instigated by Jiang Zemin's regime. Crowds of people came to see both the Chinese Calligraphy and the Journey of Falun Dafa photo exhibition that was posted on the busiest and most famous street in Edinburgh.

Many people were interested in attending the free Falun Gong exercise classes and an astounding amount of signatures were accumulated in protest against the unjust treatment of 16 Dafa practitioners in the recent sham trial in Hong Kong. Although the television forecasted rain for the final day of the Dafa activities, the beating sun was a treat for everyone. Practitioners from countries such as Germany, Ukraine and Ireland also attended Edinburgh to enjoy the festivities.

One Scottish man told a practitioner that he is a member of an NGO that takes action against injustice in the world in an attempt to promote peace and curtail human rights abuses. He showed great concern for the Falun Gong practitioners persecuted in China and as he left promised to send a letter of support from the NGO. He also said that he planned to draft a petition calling for an immediate end to Jiang Zemin's brutal suppression of those who merely want to be good people. Later in the day, this man returned and asked for 10 leaflets clarifying the truth about the persecution. He said that he would like to put them on the table at the next NGO board meeting.

Many copies of Dafa leaflets were handed out in both Chinese and English and hundreds of people were happy to take them. Lots of people had already heard about Dafa after the practitioners won first prize during the opening cavalcade of this year's Edinburgh Festival. During the afternoon, several practitioners had an official exercise demonstration as part of the Edinburgh 2002 International Fringe Festival, the world's largest arts and culture festival. This was watched with great interest by many people and was also caught on film by a lot of festivalgoers. Many people were touched by the happy and friendly attitude of the practitioners and left the stall with a good impression of Falun Dafa.
