On the afternoon of August 4, Falun Gong practitioners from the Chicago area gathered outside the Chinese consulate in Chicago to protest the Jiang regime's persecution.

Pressured by the Jiang regime, the case of the Hong Kong police charging Falun Gong practitioners with obstruction was brought to court and will be decided on August 5, 2002. Despite the fact that video footage and other evidence fully demonstrated that the charges were fabricated and groundless, the judge presiding over the case is undeniably biased toward the prosecution. People around the world can clearly see that Hong Kong's democracy and system of justice is eroding. The so-called trial is just another form of persecution being perpetrated by the Jiang regime.

Chicago practitioners contacted the local media about the developments. We also faxed and telephoned people in Hong Kong and told them about the truth of the incident. Practitioners told them that Hong Kong's future depends on the protection of democracy and the independence of the justice system. The promise of "One country two systems for 50 years" has been jeopardized in just five years because of Jiang's dictatorship. It would be so sad for the people of Hong Kong if Jiang is allowed to further abuse his power to advance his personal agenda.

Chicago practitioners appealed to the people of Hong Kong, the international community, the media, and people from all walks of life to stand up and stop the Jiang regime's evil persecution of innocent Falun Gong practitioners and its violation of the people of Hong Kong's basic human rights. Please show your support for these civil rights, including the freedom of belief, the freedom of assembly, and the freedom of speech. To ensure that the people of Hong Kong's basic rights are not infringed upon, for the sake of a bright future for Hong Kong, we urge the Hong Kong government to stop the groundless persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.
