1. [China] Money Collected from the People Is Used to Suppress Them - "610 Offices" Are Set Up Across the Country

At the end of 2001, Jiang's regime conducted its second census of work units across the country. Based on policies passed down from higher authorities, the "610 Office" in a certain county registered itself in the census as the "610 Office of the Party Committee of XX County." [The "610 Office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.] It is categorized as a government organization, which receives its entire budget from the government. It is also registered as a permanently established organization with a legal identity and representative, with formally registered positions, payroll, and staff. Apparently the "610 Offices" across the country are all registered this way.

We have also learned that in a formal document on county party committee stationary, it is explicitly stated that within the county, a "610 Leadership Group" is established on top of the "610 Office." The highest ranking official of the county Party committee has to be the chief of the "610 Leadership Group," and the head of the county government is to be the deputy chief of the "610 Leadership Group." The members of the leadership group include the secretary and deputy secretary of the political and judiciary committee and either the highest or the second highest leaders of major bureaus, departments, committees, and factories. Also, leadership groups or dedicated offices have been set up in major bureaus, departments, committees, and factories in the county.

2. [Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province] Practitioner Zhang Zhong Is Tortured to the Verge of Death in Local Detention Center

Falun Dafa practitioner Zhang Zhong from Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province has remained on a hunger strike, abstaining from both food and water ever since his arrest on April 18, 2002. It has been over four months. In addition the police have brutally tortured him. Except for a couple of toes, he no longer has feeling in any part of his body (as reported by Clearwisdom.net on August 31). Zhang Zhong's parents have demanded his release many times in order to save his life. Not only have they never been allowed to visit their son, whose life is in imminent danger, but also the chief of the detention center has even claimed, "Orders have been given from the police department that even if he dies, we cannot release him."

3. [Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province] Wolitun Police Station Arrests Elderly Practitioner Couple Cui Hongyi and Wang Shuqin

A little past 6:00 am on July 24, 2002 a Falun Dafa practitioner couple, Cui Hongyi and Wang Shuqin, were at home when they were abducted by Yang Jianqiu, the chief of the Wolitun Police Station; police officers Yu Lei and Cheng, who are in charge of this residential section; the division chief of the Yixi Public Security Division Li Yanting; Zhou Cunxing; Big Liu; Little Liu; and others. The couple refused to open the door, so the police broke open the lock on the gate and crashed through the second door. Once inside, they forcibly took the couple away without giving them a chance to speak.

The reason given for their abduction was that two Falun Dafa practitioners had gone to the couple's home to deliver Falun Gong truth-clarifying materials prior to the lunar New Year's Day. The couple was arrested and later released after twenty-eight days of a hunger strike. Six months later, the police are using the same excuse to detain them again.

The elderly Cui Hongyi is being held in the Longfeng Detention Center in Daqing City and has been on a hunger strike ever since his arrival. Cui's family members were called in to persuade him to take in food eight or nine days later. They could see that he had lost a lot of weight and had to be supported by others in order to walk. His elderly wife Wang Shuqin is also confined in the Daqing Detention Center, and family members are not allowed to visit her.

4. [Handan City, Hebei Province] Falun Dafa Practitioners Qian Guoning, Guo Chunrong, Yang Hongbin, and Liu Yuhui from Handan City Arrested or Detained

Falun Dafa practitioner Qian Guoning is an employee in the special drilling division of the metallurgy bureau. Since July 20, 2002, officials of the public security division in his work unit had been demanding incessantly that he write statements of guarantees [denouncing Falun Gong]. Qian Guoning resisted these unreasonable demands, and, as a result, he was taken away by the public security division on August 17. Currently he is being illegally held in the No. 1 Detention Center in Handan City.

Falun Dafa practitioner Guo Chunrong (wife of Qian Guoning) is a teacher at the Lingbei Primary School. She was handcuffed at school on the afternoon of August 17 by police officers from the public security division in the special drilling division and forced into the police vehicle. Her home was then ransacked. She was released the same night when the principal of her school bailed her out. Three days later, she was again detained by several police officers from the special drilling division late in the afternoon. She is currently being illegally held in the No. 1 Detention Center of Handan City.

Falun Dafa practitioner Yang Hongbin was arrested by police officers from the Congxi Police Station in the wee hours of August 18 while distributing Falun Gong truth clarifying materials. The chief of Handan City's Congtai District Police Department (whose last name is Wen) personally lead others to search Yang's home. Currently Yang Hongbin is being illegally held in the No.1 Detention Center of Handan City.

Falun Dafa practitioner Liu Yuhui has been held in custody in the No. 2 Detention Center of Handan City for almost two years. He has suffered from all kinds of inhumane tortures. Recently the deputy chief of the detention center Cui has put handcuffs and shackles on him because he was practicing Falun Gong exercises.

5. [Anhui Province] Two Practitioners Break Out of Forced Labor Camp with Righteous Thoughts

Two Falun Dafa practitioners in a certain city in Anhui Province were sent to a forced labor camp after going to Beijing to validate Falun Dafa. To resist the persecution, they abstained from food and water from the first day of their custody. The police threatened, "Don't expect to get out by going on a hunger strike. You are going to die here and nowhere else." In April 2002, after seventy days without food, both practitioners walked out of the forced labor camp with dignity and honor. They have again immersed themselves into the great activities of Fa rectification.

6. [China] Falun Dafa Songs Heard in the Temple of Yue Fei

On August 20, tourists heard the Falun Dafa song and music "Xijiangyue" when they were touring the Temple of Yue Fei [a national hero in Chinese history]. The song expresses the determination of Falun Dafa practitioners to continue cultivating until the very end no matter what obstacles they face along the way.

7. [Zhengzhou City, Henan Province] Employee Constantly Harassed for Having a Name Similar to that of a Practitioner in the Same Company

An employee happens to have a name similar to that of a Falun Dafa practitioner in the same company. For over three years, he has been investigated as a Falun Gong practitioner. Whenever Jiang issued new orders to persecute Falun Dafa practitioners, he was harassed by the police over the phone or had to endure police officers constantly coming to his home.

8. [Shanxi Province] "The Police Have Gone Crazy in Arresting People"

Police in a certain city in Shanxi Province are going unchecked in arresting Falun Gong practitioners or anyone they find remotely suspicious. The police activities were said to be associated with Falun Gong truth clarifying materials being widely distributed. The police immediately place under arrest anyone they consider suspicious. On one night a young couple was strolling down the street. A police vehicle pulled over and the officers started dragging the young people into the vehicle. The young woman shouted at them, "What crime did we commit? Why are you are arresting us?" When the public heard this through word of mouth, they expressed their anger towards the police, "They have gone crazy in arresting people."
