My name is Zhao Jiping. I worked at Hongchang Mining Equipment Assembly Factory of the Mining Bureau in Shangyashan City, Heilongjiang Province. I am 38 years old. My husband Zhang Lejin worked at the Maintenance Shop in the Transportation Department of the Mining Bureau.

Relying on the true and steadfast belief in Dafa, our family of three went to Beijing in December 2000 to validate Dafa after the persecution began on July 20, 1999. My husband's workplace sent people to get us back from Beijing. They made us pay for all the expenses, totaling over 4,000 Yuan. They also made us pay for the 400 Yuan plus expenses for a policeman in my workplace. They blackmailed us 1,000 Yuan for food expenses and made us sign a note of 2,100 Yuan after illegally jailing us for four and a half months. The police in the jail and the police from our workplaces took turns torturing us. One time a police named Huang Weijia ran into the jail like a lunatic and yelled the foulest obscenities.

On April 19, 2002, someone banged on my door at 1:20 a.m., waking up my neighbors. After breaking the window first and then opening the door, scores of people swarmed into my house. There were the director of the "610 Office" Mr. Zhao, people from provincial police department, a manager from the city police department Jiang Daohong, political director Li Sen, and the assistant director of the police bureau Mr. Jiang. The instructor from Changan Police Station, Mr. Liu, and the deputy head of the Fuan Police Station began searching the house as soon as they came in. They took away my children's VCD and Walkman, not even forgetting its transformer. I was beaten by Mr. Zhao from the "610 Office" when I tried to stop them from stealing Master's picture and the Dafa books. They also took away my cell phone and pager, and tied my husband up with a belt and took him away.

On April 20th and 21st, the police from Changan Police Station took turns guarding us at our home. My children and I needed permission to even go to the restroom, and they would watch us. They followed me around in my house and would answer the door when visitors came. On the evening of 21st, an instructor from Changan Police Station, together with another policeman Zuo Aimin, came to my house and took away two photos of my husband's. I realized then that my husband had escaped.

Then I heard that my husband had gone to my brother's house. The police began hassling his neighbors. The police took my brother and his wife, who are not practitioners, to the police station and threatened them until they were in tears. My brother had to spend 5,000 Yuan plus additional fees to avoid being jailed.

On August 23, 2002 six people from the police department went to my husband's friend's house at around 3:00 p.m., and took him and his wife to the police department. They put him into jail at 1 o'clock in the morning. He was forced to pay 5,000 Yuan after being jailed for a few days. He and his wife lived in a poor mining district, making only a few hundred yuan a month. 5,000 Yuan to them is a big fortune. The wife has heart problems and can hardly endure such ordeals.

Since my husband's escape, I have been continuously followed by the police no matter where I go, be it shopping for food, going to the restroom, or just walking around in my house.

On August 30, 2002, Li Sen, a manager of the police department and another policeman called my brother in for questioning regarding my husband's whereabouts. He was ordered to submit a report twice a week. As recently as September 2nd, he was called in again. He is not even a practitioner; I cannot understand why the police need to harass my friends and relatives.
