Falun Dafa Association of Canada Appeals to European Trade Commissioner and Danish Leaders to Speak Out Against the Persecution at ASEM Summit

Dear Mr. Lamy,

As we are aware that you have met with Economic and Trade Ministers of the EU and ten Asian countries in Copenhagen on Sept. 19 in the context of the Asia Europe Meeting (ASEM), we would respectfully and sincerely request you, as opportunities still exist during ASEM, to raise an issue with a broad and deep scope - the brutal persecution of Falun Gong in China and the extension of the persecution overseas. We ask that you take the initiative to express your feeling to the Chinese leadership during the EU-China Summit that the relentless pursuit against "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" is completely unacceptable to us all.

Falun Gong has brought health and inner peace to over 100 million people of all backgrounds and cultures worldwide. Falun Gong teaches people to be good in every circumstance and to follow a profound universal teaching of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance." True to this teaching, even when facing vicious torture and attack, Falun Gong practitioners remain truthful, compassionate, and tolerant, peacefully and non-violently appealing to their fellow man from the heart.

In contrast, the leader of the PRC uses its propaganda machine and its consulates and embassies around the world to spread lies and fabricated stories about Falun Gong, fuelling the persecution overseas. They have used many coercive means such as diplomatic ultimatums to deceive others and to force them to do things against their conscience.

For instance, in Copenhagen, pressure from Chinese authorities led the Danish government to disallow participation by Chinese Falun Gong artists in a cultural exhibition under the threat of China stopping the participation of it's own state-sanctioned performers. In Iceland, the government was threatened that Jiang would cancel his visit if authorities didn't stop Falun Gong practitioners from entering the country. In Germany, Jiang's secret police coerced local authorities to curtail the peaceful appeals of Falun Gong practitioners so that Jiang would not have to see the appeals of his own countrymen.

Falun Gong upholds the best of human nature. Your voice can and will make a difference. We appeal to you from the bottom of our hearts to make these concerns heard at EU-China Summit. Your efforts to stand up and speak out against the persecution of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" will benefit everyone, all around the world. This is because a healthy society with a vibrant, robust and sustainable economy is rooted in the core values of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance." Justice, the rule of law, economic prosperity, and cultural and political friendship all follow from this.

Many years from now we know that people will look back at this time differently than the way we may see it today. The opportunities and pressures that influence us while we are in the midst of making decisions of vast import will not cloud their judgment. They will judge truth and justice with far more candor than we are able to today. As these people will in fact be our children, we should try our best to earn their respect, and we should try to pass onto them the very best things that we can. What kind of future could there be in China and the rest of the world if these principles cease to be valued?

European Union has a long history of defending human rights. The decisions you make today about this issue will be widely reflected in our futures. Please, open your hearts to the truth of this matter, and speak up to help stop Jiang's persecution of the values underlying all goodness in humanity.
