I would like to commend elected community officials across New Jersey who have shown support to Falun Gong (Falun Dafa) by issuing resolutions, proclamations, etc., in general acknowledging and discouraging China's persecution of Falun Gong, a peaceful self-improvement practice rooted in Chinese culture. Also I would like to commend the thousands of local residents for their support by signing our petitions, speaking out for us, and sending out petition cards and letters to President Bush. I also want to thank all the New Jersey members of Congress for unanimously voting in favor of Resolution 188 (H. Con. Res. 188) on July 22, which not only calls on China to cease the persecution of Falun Gong but also discusses the activities carried out by Chinese diplomats on U.S. soil to disrupt the Falun Gong practice in the United States.

In October, President Bush is hosting brutal Chinese leader Jiang Zemin at his Texas ranch. Given the chaos and turmoil caused by Jiang on recent visits to Germany, Iceland and Hong Kong, where the very foundations of democracy and freedom were destabilized during his visit, America will need to stand guard this October.

In Germany, police force was used to throw out Chinese-looking people from Jiang's hotel who had the potential to appeal to him. In Iceland, a blacklist was gathered of Falun Gong practitioners and passed to airports around the world banning their entry to Iceland to ensure an "appeal-free" visit for Jiang. Hong Kong's "One Country Two Systems" theory seemed to have been put on hold when it obliged Jiang's order to deport Falun Gong practitioners on the blacklist.

While President Bush has acknowledged the suffering of Falun Gong in China, stating, "We have repeatedly stressed to the Chinese government that there is no justification for its brutal repression of Falun Gong," a firm dialogue between Bush and Jiang on this subject remains to be seen.

In October we will need to have everyone's continued support not only to appeal for Falun Gong but also to protect American democracy during Jiang's visit.
