Radio Free Asia: Members of International Labor Union Oppose Hong Kong's Article 23 Legislation

(Clearwisdom.net) Hong Kong, January 17, 2003 (RFA) -- More than 1000 members of the International Labor Union sent emails to Tung Chee-hwa, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, telling Tung that enactment of Article 23 will imperil the Hong Kong people's political and civil rights. The "Hong Kong Labor Union" and "Chinese Labor Communication" called upon labor union organizations throughout the world to support Hong Kong workers' rights to organize and protest in order to safeguard and strive for better working conditions. The "Hong Kong Labor Union" and "Chinese Labor Communication" also criticized the Chinese government for using the excuse of preventing subversion and harming national security to reinforce its control and suppression of dissidents.
