Appeal Letter from Mr. Liu Litao, a Dafa Practitioner Who Was Tortured at the Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp in Beijing
By Dafa practitioner Mr. Liu Litao in China
(Clearwisdom.net) I am a villager from Songjiagou Village, Xinmin Township, Taihe District,
Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province. I was illegally kidnapped and sent to the Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp
in Beijing because I practice Falun Dafa. On August 1, 2002, I was forcibly taken to Division No. 5 in the Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp. Upon
arrival, the guards told us how well they treated practitioners and that the articles on Clearwisdom
Net [Minghui Net in Chinese] related to the persecution in the labor camp were false. During
the next two months I saw that what the guards said was actually false. This is what happened to me after 3:30 p.m. on August 14, 2002 at the Tuanhe Labor Camp Dispatch
Center: Six police officers and two prisoners brutally beat me, which resulted in my passing out for
one day and one night. As a result, I was sent to the Tuanhe Hospital and stayed there for seven
days. Yue Qingjin, the chief of Division No.5 of Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp, claimed that the beating
was for my own good. Chief Yang of the Education Section, along with collaborators [former Falun Gong practitioners
who have gone astray due to severe torture and brainwashing] tried to brainwash me every day
until late into the night; they often forbade me from sleeping when it was time for sleep and
forbade me from eating when it was time for a meal. They used the "wheel" tactic (rotating
different persecutors in shifts) and took turns using brainwashing methods on me in order to exhaust
me. In mid September 2002, the team leaders tortured me and other practitioners by forcing us to
stand in the "army corps" posture, during which time I experienced severe muscle pains in
my lower back. I asked a team leader for a break, but he said, "Bear it for a while."
After the standing mistreatment, we were forced to squat and stand up repeatedly in the army
posture, and I fell to the ground numerous times. After more than three weeks of the squat-and-stand
abuse, the pain in my lower back grew much worse and I was often awakened by the pain at night and
could not go back to sleep. During this physical abuse, the only relief I was given was to stand
still. Team leader Yang said, "If you pass out from the pain, then fall on the grass." I could no longer endure this physical and mental torture, and I told the team leaders that I
refused to continue. Three team leaders dragged me and forced me to continue. I told them, "My
lower back hurts so badly that I cannot even sleep, yet you treat me like this. I won't go."
Team leader Yang said I should go to the medical room to have my lower back checked out. The doctor
prescribed medications but I refused to take them, because this situation had resulted completely
from the team leaders insisting on my performing the limitless so-called physical training. My pain
showed that I was unfit to do such long-term physical movements, and if I took the medication and
continued the "training," what purpose would that serve? Why would they insist that I, a
person who firmly refuses the brainwashing, do this kind of training? Why would they insist on my
doing it when I experience such severe pain? When I refused to follow the abusive order, I was forced to stand on a square brick (its area is
approximately 0.125 square meter, i.e., about 1.3 square feet). The guards even forced me to urinate
on the square brick spot when I needed to use the bathroom. Even when I told them about the pain in
my lower back, the guards would not allow me to move. If I moved slightly, they would press on my
shoulders with both hands and hit my lower back with their knee. They also clutched my neck and I
had difficulty breathing. They forbade me from speaking. Because of the severe pain in my lower
back, I couldn't keep the balance between my legs and feet, and team leader Yang ridiculed me and
said, "You are just faking illness." Isn't this physical torture and psychological abuse actually persecution against us Dafa
practitioners who persist in our faith? I said to the guards, "We practitioners won't return blows or curses when we are hit or
cursed. What do you want to do with me?" They said, "You must reform." I said,
"That's absolutely impossible." Labor camp police: October 15, 2002 For more stories regarding Mr. Liu, see http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2003/1/23/31216.html
