Urgent Call for the Rescue of Australian Falun Gong Practitioner Nancy Chen

When Australian Falun Gong practitioner Nancy Chen brought her 6-year-old daughter back to China to visit her elderly parents, she was kidnapped by the National Security Bureau on January 22 in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. As of today, she is still being detained at the Yibin City Party School Hotel in Sichuan Province.

Threats from the National Security Bureau in China

Nancy's husband, who is in Australia, received a phone call from Nancy's family, telling him that they were threatened by the National Security Bureau. They said two officers from the National Security Bureau came to their home and asked them to pass these words to him: "Do not spread the news of the arrest of your wife on the Internet, otherwise, you will have to bear the consequences."

The National Security Bureau asked Nancy to tell them whom she had contacted, and the purpose of her returning to China. They also forced her to sign a guarantee promising not to inform the Australian Embassy in China unless she was sentenced to prison. Since she signed the guarantee under pressure, her family did not admit the validity of it. Under any circumstances, Australian citizens have the right to contact their own government.

The National Security Bureau also threatened Nancy's husband not to report her arrest, or "serious consequences" would arise as a result.

Reasons for the arrest of Nancy

The local police brought Nancy's mother and brother to the police station for interrogation. They told them that Nancy was arrested by the National Security Bureau just because she is a Falun Gong practitioner. The police also searched Nancy's mother's house for Falun Gong truth-clarification VCDs, but failed to find anything.

The National Security Bureau and the "610 Office" (an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems) also told Nancy's family that they were attempting to transform Nancy (meaning to force her to give up her belief in Dafa). If she cooperated with them, she would be released in time for the Chinese Spring Festival.

The National Security Bureau also brought Nancy to the prison and showed her around, threatening to send her to prison if she did not give in. Now her family cannot see her and she has completely lost her personal freedom. She is monitored even when she is sleeping. The interrogations she has to endure are also recorded each time.

Response from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Australia

Nancy's husband, Mr. Lu said, "At 11 a.m. this morning, I talked to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They haven't gotten in touch with Nancy yet. They suggested that they help rescue my 6-year-old daughter first. But they need to get in touch with Nancy in the first place."

Voices of justice from kindhearted people

Learning of the arrest of Nancy, many media in Australia reported the news. Staff members from the Australian Embassy in China also called Nancy's family, promising they will try their best to get her out.

Falun Gong practitioners also called various law enforcement bodies in Yibin City and Chengdu City, warning them of the seriousness of this matter. Some people were very nervous when receiving phone calls from overseas, while some pretended that they did not know about this matter. Practitioners were able to have long talks with some of the officials to let them know that this matter has been reported on the Internet and to many overseas media, and is receiving close attention from overseas governments and people.

Some citizens in Yibin City were shocked and outraged after receiving the phone call and learning about the arrest of Nancy. Some said that they know that this place [Sichuan Province] is very evil.

The "Nancy Chen Urgent Rescue Team" calls upon kindhearted people to immediately take actions to clarify the truth of the situation and expose the evil deeds occurring in China using all means possible, including making phone calls, sending faxes and email messages, and writing letters to various government departments and people in Sichuan Province. They also call upon people to provide contact information (such as name, pictures) of relevant people in National Security Bureau to the "World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong" so they can do investigation and collect evidence to be posted on the Fawanghuihui website.
