CCTV Slanders Falun Gong by Lying About the Real Reason Behind Cao Yuzhen's Suicide
12/27/2002
(Clearwisdom.net) On July 22, 1999, the China Central Television station (CCTV)
broadcast a news story about a woman named Cao Yuzhen, who jumped into the Dongming
River to commit suicide. This was then blamed on Falun Dafa. It was obviously a
set up to frame Falun Gong. The following is the true situation:
Cao Yuzhen, female, 30 years old, was from Huaidi Village, Huaidi Township,
Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province. According to the villagers, she was mentally
ill. She would go to strangers' houses and say things that didn't make any
sense.
She had never practiced Falun Gong. Her husband had taken her to see a Falun
Gong practitioner, hoping that the practitioner would treat her or teach her the
practice. Since Falun Dafa makes it very clear that mental health patients are
not to practice, the practitioner didn't teach her the Falun Gong exercises, nor
did the practitioner treat her illness. Both the husband and wife were sent
home.
According to the villagers, she didn't get along with her husband. When her
husband found her body, he reportedly didn't show any emotion. Instead, he said,
"I will pay anyone who offers to retrieve her body from the water", which was
far from what was portrayed on CCTV, as he was said to be crying bitterly over her death.
Many people in the area knew that Cao committed suicide because she suffered
from a mental illness. Even the local police who investigated the incident felt
that it was far-fetched to blame it on Falun Dafa and found it hard to
understand that CCTV lied about it.
