Mr. Bai Xiaojun, a lecturer at the China Northeast Normal University was
tortured by police in the Weizigou Labor Camp and Chaoyanggou Labor Camps in
Changchun, Jilin Province. In July, he died from the tortures he had endured.
His younger brother, Mr. Bai Shaohua is currently being tortured in the
infamous Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp in Beijing. Since learning of the death of one
son and the detention and torture of another son, their mother, who is in her
70s, has fallen seriously ill.
Some significant events that led to the death of Mr. Bai Xiaojun:
- Mr. Bai went to Beijing to appeal on July 18, 2000. He was arrested and
sent to the Fenjin Forced Labor Camp in Changchun City, Jilin Province from
August 2000 until April 2001. He was held in the Jilin Provincial Police
Hospital more than one month, after he developed severe scabies during his
torture.
- He was illegally detained in the Weizigou Labor Camp in Changchun City,
Jilin Province from April 11, 2001 until February 12, 2002, an extension of
his original term by more than 7 months.
- On the eve of the Chinese New Year on February 12, 2002, the day his labor
camp term was to finally end, he was detained in the Xinglongshan
Brainwashing Base for one month, and later detained in the Changchun City
No. 3 Detention Center for approximately another month.
- In April 2002, he was again sentenced to a forced labor camp for 3 years,
and detained in Team No. 4 of the Chaoyanggou Labor Camp in Changchun City.
The Team Leader was Fu Guohua. By the end of June 2003, after having been so
severely beaten that he could not eat, he was transferred to Team No.1.
- Mr. Bai died on July 18, 2003 in the Changchun City Lazaretto.
