(Clearwidom.net) It was reported from San Francisco on October 21 2003 that Falun Gong from the San Francisco Bay Area held a press conference in front of the Chinese Consulate, protesting China's illegal detention of Taiwan tourist Mr. Lin Xiaokai and requesting China to release Lin immediately.

Falun Gong practitioners learned that Lin Xiaokai went to Shanghai for a tour but lost contact on October 7. Lin has been detained at the Shanghai National Security Bureau, likely because Lin is a Falun Gong practitioner.

The China authorities, in violation of international human rights agreements, have blocked Lin from contacting the outside world, including his newly married wife Ms. Chen Shuya.

Bay Area Falun Gong practitioners from Taiwan pointed out that this was not an isolated case. Starting from July 1999 when China's former dictator Jiang began the persecution of Falun Gong, many brutal persecution cases have taken place, including some that involved Taiwanese Falun Gong practitioners. The practitioners requested the Chinese government to release Lin Xiaokai, Charles Li and other illegally detained Falun Gong practitioners immediately. The practitioners tried to deliver a letter to the Chinese Consulate, but the officials inside the consulate refused to open the door.
