"610 Office" of Daqing Petroleum Administration Bureau Abducts and Extorts Money from Practitioner Li Ling

Li Ling, 51 years old, is a worker at the General Machine Factory of the Daqing Petroleum Administration Bureau. He was forced out of his job due to his refusal to give up practicing Falun Gong.

In January 2000, Mr. Li was forced to pay 10,000 yuan [500 Yuan is the average monthly income for an urban worker in China] by the "610 Office" of the General Machine Factory [a bureau specifically created by the Chinese government to persecute Falun Gong. It has absolute power over each level of administration in the Party, as well as over the political and judiciary branches]. Because he refused to give up his belief in "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance," the money was taken with an agreement to return it under the condition that he would not go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. The money was never returned.

On June 18, 2000, Mr. Li was illegally detained for 15 days. The sole reason for this was that he took part in a group practice at a park located in front of the Daqing Petroleum Administration Bureau. He then had another 2,000 Yuan extorted from him.

In November 2000, Mr. Li was abducted when he appealed for Falun Gong, in Beijing, and was deported back to Daqing City. This time the "610 Office" of the General Machine Factory and the Daqing Petroleum Administration Bureau Office in Beijing extorted 4,000 Yuan from him.

From December 3, 2000 to January 21, 2001, he was detained at the Ranghulu Detention Center in Daqing City.

From January 21, to July 5, 2001, he was detained in the Daqing City Labor Camp.

One day, early in 2002, just as he walked out his apartment building, he encountered a few policemen who were waiting for him. The policemen abducted him to the Ranghulu Detention Center, without giving any reason or showing any official document. He was detained for 4 and a half months. During the detention, he went on two hunger strikes, one for 4 days and one for 9 days, to protest the illegal abduction and detention. Afterwards, he was sentenced to forced labor for 3 years. Mr. Li is currently still being detained in the labor camp.
