Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG) made public the investigation regarding
the situation of Falun Gong practitioner Liu Chengjun who was on hunger strike
and tortured to the verge of death at Jilin City Prison. WOIPFG has confirmed
that because Liu Chengjun's case has been exposed to the international society
related work units may have transferred him to an undisclosed location. Liu
Chengjun has not yet been released. His life is still in danger.

cannot sit up in a natural posture. Mr. Liu Chengjun held a hunger strike to protest the brutal persecution at
Jilin City Prison. The prison authorities beat and tortured him into a critical
condition and Mr. Liu Chengjun is on the verge of death. The authorities sent
him into the Comprehensive Unit of the City Central Hospital for emergency
treatment. Liu Chengjun is in unconscious condition at the hospital. Liu
Chengjun's family is currently under surveillance by the police who wish to
prevent them from revealing the truth to the outside world.
About 100 Falun Gong practitioners are being held in Jilin City Prison, and
most of them have gone on a hunger strike to protest the ongoing severe torture
towards themselves and all Dafa practitioners. The lives of those engaged are in
great danger.

Investigation Regarding the Situation of Jilin City Prison
Torturing Falun Gong Practitioner Liu Chengjun to the Verge of Death
It is learnt from the information obtained by the World Organization to
Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong that about 100 Falun Gong
practitioners are being held in Jilin City Prison, and most of them have gone on
a hunger strike to protest the ongoing severe torture towards themselves and all
Dafa practitioners. The lives of those engaged in this peaceful appeal are in
danger. It has been verified that Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Chengjun has
been on the verge of death since three days ago. The police sent him to the
Comprehensive Unit of the City Central Hospital.
The World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong
opened a case of the above incident and started the investigation on October 26,
2003.
Brief Summary of Testimony from a Witness in Mainland China:
On October 24, 2003, the witness saw Liu Chengjun in unconscious state in
Jilin City Central Hospital. Liu's eyes appeared chaotic without brightness, and
being gray. He has been in critical condition with an oxygen mask on and IV. The
witness claimed he talked to police guards, the captain, the doctors, and prison
guards about releasing Liu Chengjun from prison. But they mutually dodged him.
This witness then gave the hospital 1,000 Yuan requesting a physical exam for
Liu Chengjun. The exam result came out at 3:00 p.m. Beijing time that day. It
showed Liu Chengjun as having acute kidney failure; arrhythmia, and he could
lose his life at any moment. The doctor told the family to immediately prepare
for his funeral, and at the same time, issued a critically- ill notification.
The police pushed this case back and forth, and still refused to set him free,
saying it required meetings and reports from all levels.
At 12 a.m. US Eastern Time on October 27, 2003, Investigator #01 reports:
Investigator #01 had a conversation with the office manager of the City
Central Hospital. The office manager is a female. She did not want to give her
name. She admitted Liu Chengjun is in her hospital, but was unwilling to provide
detailed information.
In the evening of October 27, 2003, US Eastern Time, Investigator #03
reports:
A nurse of the Comprehensive Unit in Jilin City Central Hospital confirmed
that Liu was currently in a comprehensive unit room. Investigator #03 talked to
a member of Liu's family through the nurse's arrangement. The family member said
Liu was still in critical condition. He was not conscious and could not
recognize people. The hospital still wanted him to be discharged. Investigator
#03's conversation with the family member was forcefully cut off by a male.
Before the connection was cut, investigator #03 heard a male's voice asking,
"who are you talking to?" It has been determined that this male was a
police guard.
At 8 p.m. US Eastern Time on October 27, 2003, Investigator #04 reports:
A male official of Prison Affairs Section at Jilin City Prison didn't deny
the fact that Liu Chengjun is on the verge of death and has been sent to a
hospital for emergency treatment.
At 8 p.m. US Eastern Time on October 27, 2003, Investigator #04 reports:
A female worker of the Comprehensive Unit at Jilin City Central Hospital
said, "As our superiors have arranged, Liu Chengjun was taken away by
police to another hospital this morning. It's hard to say if he is in a critical
condition. He has been on a hunger strike for more than ten days and he is very
weak. He can hardly speak."
At 5 a.m. US Eastern Time on October 28, 2003, Investigator #63 reports:
A female personnel at the Comprehensive Unit at Jilin City Central Hospital,
who didn't give her name, said Liu Chengjun was transferred to a hospital in
Changchun City, and the location is unclear.
According to the reports above, the World Organization to Investigate the
Persecution of Falun Gong has confirmed that Falun Gong practitioner Liu

Liu Chengjun, male, lived in Nongan County, Jilin Province. He graduated with
a accounting certificate from Changchun City Corps Employee's Technical School.
He began practicing Falun Gong in 1995. After July 20, 1999, Liu Chengjun
appealed for Falun Gong and was abducted and detained at the Fenjin Labor Camp
in Changchun City for one year. Because he refused to give up his belief, his
term was illegally extended by ten months. At 3 a.m. on March 22, 2002, police
abducted him with the excuse that he was involved in the incident of
broadcasting Falun Gong truth programs through the Changchun Cable TV System on
March 5, 2002. At the time, Liu Chengjun was hiding out under a work shed in the
mountains. Police surrounded the shed and set it on fire. Police shot him, Liu's
hand was burned from the fire and his leg was broken from the police's shooting.
On September 20, 2003, Changchun City Intermediate People's Court sentenced him
to 19 years in prison. During the court trial, a large group of police openly
and brutally beat the practitioners being tried and shocked them with electric
batons to prevent them from upholding Falun Gong. That same day after the trial,
Liu Chengjun was unable to walk because of the torture; he had to be carried
back into the prison cell.
