The Global Coalition to Bring Jiang to Justice Announces Its Establishment in Washington DC (photo)
(Clearwisdom.net) Epochtimes news net reports that The Global Coalition to Bring
Jiang Zemin to Justice formally announced its establishment in the National Press Club in
Washington DC on the morning of September 30, 2003. The Coalition is committed to embodying all
righteous forces and exposing all the crimes of Jiang Zemin. The Coalition will ensure that Jiang is
brought to justice in the court of conscience, the court of morality and the court of law. To date,
over 100 organizations and individuals have joined in to support the Coalition. The Coalition press conference Li Dayong, one of the initiators of the Coalition, said in the founding announcement, "Since
Jiang Zemin became Secretary General of the Communist Party, there have been complete setbacks in
the Chinese society and social morality." "His crimes in China have threatened the very
basic values upon which civilization is based. Almost all individuals and large groups wishing to
express independent beliefs, mindsets, different ways of thinking or demands, including the students
who appealed for democracy on June 4, 1989, laid-off workers, religious believers, qigong
practitioners, human rights and democracy advocates, journalists and media workers, and political
activists have all suffered persecution to various degrees. In particular, hundreds of millions of
Falun Gong practitioners who believe in the principle of í Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance' have
suffered brutal persecution which is aimed to í defame their reputation, bankrupt them financially,
and destroy them physically.'" Li Dayong said that such atrocities are still happening. They have been working very hard by
peacefully calling for an end to Jiang's crimes. However, "the existing National People's
Congress, legal system, and the police system in China do not have the ability, means and courage to
investigate and stop Jiang's crimes and uphold justice." As to governments or organizations
outside of China, "because of people's lack of understanding about Jiang's crimes," or
"due to the financial and political pressure," there have certainly been obstacles.
"In order to truly bring Jiang Zemin to a historic trial, it is necessary for all supporters of
justice around the world to join in and push this forward from all directions." He Dong, a professor of China's legal system, who supports the Coalition, said that from
"3-Againsts" and "5-Againsts" to the Cultural Revolution, to the June 4th
massacre, the controllers of the highest power of the Communist Party of China repeatedly utilized
the political campaigns to fight against its people, thus generating extremely negative effects on
people's hearts in the Chinese society. Nowadays, when many people see the shadow of a political
campaign, they instinctively protect themselves, follow the crowd, blindly make money and seek to
enjoy a comfortable life, or remain silent with cold indifference so as to keep themselves away from
it. As a result, people's morality and conscience have gradually deteriorated. This way, the
dictator has a larger scope to abuse his power for personal interests and he does whatever he
desires. Professor He Dong believes that during the past four years since April 25, 1999, Jiang Zemin has
simply been taking advantage of the crisis of conscience that has been built up in China over the
past five decades. Through the political campaign to eliminate Falun Gong, Jiang has been trying to
spiritually control the entire Chinese society. The persecution is having a deep and destructive
effect on the morality and conscience of the overseas Chinese as well as of all mankind. The
evilness and terrorism exerted through the persecution not only completely overwhelm China, but also
have impacted the world, and the extent of the damage to human society is unprecedented . Professor He said that now many people inside and outside of China, both Chinese and westerners,
have already come to know of the existence and brutality of the persecution. People would resist the
persecution of Falun Gong if not pressured or influenced by material interests. However, when they
are threatened that: If you are not consistent with "the leadership," you will lose your
job; your reputation will be damaged; you will be listed as "a force that is against
China" and lose your commercial opportunities in China, etc., then the people change their
minds, regardless of the widespread and continuous persecution of human rights and beliefs. Some
people even go and support the tyrant. Such damage and harm done to people's spiritual lives and
social conscience cannot be counted by monetary means. In its founding statement, the Coalition also pointed out, "the people of the world should
not tolerate Jiang's crimes. We know that if these crimes continue and are not stopped, and if we
still remain silent when faced with such atrocities and open destruction of human morality, it's
only a matter of time before the same disaster befalls us, and the existence of civilization itself
will face the most severe challenge." "We shall gather all forces of justice, expose all of Jiang's crimes, uphold human dignity
and human civilization, and inevitably bring Jiang Zemin to the court of conscience, the court of
morality and the court of law C this is the historic mission to which we are obligated." Mr. Wei Jingsheng expressed in his speech that the founding of the Coalition shows that the
Chinese people not only possess the quality of compassion, but also the courage to uphold justice.
Nevertheless, to reprimand the crimes of the past is to set a precedent for people today. At the
same time, the current purpose of this coalition is to serve as a warning for the Chinese officials
who choose to persecute innocent civilians, to limit their unjust actions and to reduce the number
of people being persecuted in mainland China today. China Peace president Mr. Tang Boqiao made used of a quote from a famous author to describe
the situation in China, "China has an old saying, that the officials force the people to
revolt, but under the current circumstances, the officials are forcing the people to die." He
said that China has become a country with soaring suicide rates because everyday people's basic
rights to even defend themselves have been forcefully taken away. Dr. He Haiying, one of the contact persons for the Preparation Committee of the Coalition,
pointed out, "After the Second World War, a new crime was introduced based upon the violent
massacres induced by the Nazis, and this was called í genocide.' The crimes that Jiang has
committed however, go not only as far as physically destroying religious organizations and
individuals but he's also demolishing people's basic morals and human consciousness. This new crime
that Jiang has committed can be referred to as í Morality Genocide.'" Falun Gong representative Chen Gang also commented by describing how he was detained in a labor
camp for 18 months because of his belief in Truthfulness- Compassion-Forbearance. In these 18
months, among the various physical and mental tortures, he was forcefully kept awake for fifteen
consecutive days and was shocked in sensitive parts and areas of his body with high voltage electric
batons. At one time, he had his head tied to his legs and was shoved under a low bed with a heavy
object resting on top. This incident almost resulted in the breaking of his spinal cord and caused
him to not be able to walk normally for two weeks. Mr. Chen's portrayal of his horrific experience
further reflected the degree of persecution and the atrocities that Jiang Zemin has directed upon
Falun Gong. Dr. He also said that at this time, the news of the founding of the Coalition to Bring Jiang
to Justice has spread to mainland China and the Coalition has received numerous direct responses
in regards to this news. Many of the responses were written by ordinary workers and students who
expressed their desire for the news of the Coalition to spread further and faster. Anyone that
supports the efforts to bring Jiang to trial is welcome to join this Coalition. It is said that the Coalition will hold its first public gathering on October 6 in New York City. |
