On May 15, 2003, practitioner Ms. Sun Fenghua was arrested by Harbin City
Police in Heilongjiang Province. While she was in detention, the police
repeatedly shocked her with an electric baton, which left her body covered with
scars. The police also connected live 220-volt electric lines directly to her
hands, resulting in her immediate loss of consciousness. Ms. Sun is still unable
to walk as a result of such a massive electrical shock. After more than twenty
days of torture, the police sent her back to Hailun City Detention Center, where
she went on a hunger strike for more than four months.
On October 14, 2003, the court sentenced her to fourteen years in Harbin
Women's Prison without a trial.
