Five Falun Dafa Practitioners Illegally Sentenced in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region

(Clearwisdom.net) In June 2002, a Falun Dafa materials production site was destroyed in Duolun County, Xilinguole League, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Five practitioners, including Zhang Ling, Wang Kui and Zhao Zhanqing, were arrested and refused to give up their belief while they were in detention. After already having been illegally detained for more than a year, they were finally sentenced in August 2003.

On the day of the trial, the local public security bureau dispatched armed police to guard the courtroom entrance and prevent the families of Falun Dafa practitioners from witnessing the court proceedings. The five practitioners addressed the court with righteousness and unwavering conviction. However, the longest prison term was three and a half years, and the judicial officers illegally extended Zhang Ling's prison term an additional six months because of his firm stance on Falun Dafa.

The five Falun Dafa practitioners submitted an appeal, but on the day of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Second Criminal Trial Department of the People's Intermediate Court of Xilinguole League secretly ruled on the case, affirming the original judgment. Following the judgment, the court remanded them to prison and simply notified their families of the final decision.

Since July 20, 1999, employees of the Duolun County Public Security Bureau have repeatedly persecuted Falun Dafa practitioners. They illegally sent Ma Yingjun, Ji Xiaoquan, Zhou Ruilin and several other practitioners to forced labor camps without trials. They have confiscated practitioners' bail money and extorted several thousand Yuan from them at a time (500 Yuan is the average monthly income for an urban worker in China). They have illegally confiscated their homes simply because practitioners were suspected of copying and sharing Master Li's lectures. They have detained Falun Dafa practitioners without cause and severely beaten them many times. One such victim is Xu Fenlin, a former high school teacher in Duolun County, who was brutally tortured many times in a detention center. In September 2003, Yao Dong, the newly appointed Secretary of the Duolun County Party Committee (the highest ranking officer in the county) instituted a new session of brainwashing classes and outlined plans to begin a new wave of persecution against Falun Dafa practitioners.
