Elderly Practitioner from Pengzhou Is Brutalized for More Than Six Months

Mr. Xu from Wenchang Village, Mengyang County, Pengzhou City in Sichuan Province is more than seventy years old. Before cultivating Falun Gong, he had at least ten different diseases and a bad temper. Seeking cures for his diseases, he visited many famous doctors, practiced some qigong, and performed physical exercises, but all those efforts failed. In 1996, Falun Gong spread throughout Pengzhou City. After beginning the process of Falun Dafa, Mr. Xu became healthy and hearty looking without taking any medicine, and his temper softened.

After Jiang and his regime began persecuting Falun Gong on July 20, 1999 the government, the "610 Office"* of Mengyang County, and the "610 Office" of Pengzhou City used all sorts of torture methods to persecute Falun Dafa practitioners. Mr. Xu was one of many practitioners who were persecuted in Pengzhou City. He was kidnapped and held many times by the government of Mengyang County and the "610 Office."

On November 29, 2001, when Mr. Xu was buying crop seeds at a market, he was illegally seized by agents of the Mengyang County government and the "610 Office;" he was taken to one of their sites. The persecutors were afraid that people might see them, so they closed the door. After Mr. Xu was brutally beaten, he was handcuffed to a tree for five days and nights without sleep, food, or water. Finally, they told his family that they would not release him until the family paid a 5,000 Yuan** fine. His family refused to pay the money. The rascals were angry because their extortion scheme failed, so they locked Xu in a private cell where the air did not circulate. The room, which was wet and smelled awful, was next to the public restroom inside of the county government complex. There was no bed in the cell; Mr. Xu had to sleep on the wet ground. He received minimal food twice a day, barely enough to keep him alive. Some evenings he was taken out of the ward and was handcuffed to the tree. The persecutors either left him out in the cold night, or they struck him in the face for "fun." In the spring and summer, the worms and flies from the restroom next door crawled all over of the walls and floor. These terrible conditions of the cell are beyond words.

After enduring this barbaric treatment for more than six months, Mr. Xu remained firm in his belief in Falun Dafa. On July 29, 2002, the scoundrels transferred him to the brainwashing center of the Pengzhou City "610 Office." He suffered tremendously. Bruises and scabs from the beatings covered his body. The scoundrels didn't care how badly he was injured or how old he was; they still would not release him. In order to fend off the persecution, Mr. Xu held a hunger and water strike for 10 days. He became so weak that his whole body swelled. When he talked, his voice was very weak, and he developed heart problems. The officials in the "610 Office" of Pengzhou City were too cowardly to take responsibility for him dying in their custody, so they sent him back to the government of Mengyang County. The head of the county "610 Office" extorted 760 Yuan from his wife, put the money in his own pocket and then released Mr. Xu.

To date, authorities have extorted a total of 10,000 Yuan from Mr. Xu.

Jiang's followers refuse to do good deeds for the people; they do not care if the many poor peasants live or die, or if unemployed city dwellers find jobs. However, they go to great lengths to persecute Falun Gong practitioners, even the elderly and weak ones. The scoundrels have broken apart many families. Mr. Xu is only one of innumerable practitioners who have been persecuted.

* "610 Office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.

** Yuan is the Chinese currency. The average monthly salary of an urban worker in China is 500 Yuan.
