The Foundation and Role of Fa-rectification Dafa Practitioners -- Understanding of A Practitioner from Taiwan Who Was Once Detained by Chinese Police

In the beginning of 2003, I made a business trip to Shanghai and was illegally detained for twenty-eight days by the local police. During that period of time I was subjected to unconscionable interrogation and forced brainwashing. I realize now what this entire ordeal means to me. It means the same thing to me that it means to all of my fellow practitioners. It means I must use my personal experience as a direct victim of the persecution to reveal the evil nature of those who are persecuting Dafa and clarify the truth about Falun Dafa to sentient beings. It also means that I must walk my road of cultivation more cautiously.

What did those twenty-eight days of unjust treatment do to me? In front of a cultivator, those policemen were nothing but a bunch of clowns, even when they tried to threaten, intimate, belittle, curse, and torture me physically. These Chinese policemen committed those violent acts against me simply because I am a Falun Dafa practitioner. Before another Dafa practitioner, Lin XiaoKai, was released back to Taiwan, his wife, Chen ShuYia, told me something at a cultivation experience-sharing gathering and pointed out my attachment. I came to see that the persecution I was subjected to in society makes me a victim of the persecution. Since I was subjected to the persecution because I practice Falun Gong, I must let the general public become aware of the truth about the persecution against Falun Gong so that they will form a correct attitude towards the persecution. It goes without saying that during the process of exposing the evil persecution, I will describe my first-hand experiences as a persecution victim objectively and truthfully because I cultivate Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance.

In hindsight, I didn't have a clear understanding of my role in the Fa-rectification after I was released back to Taiwan. As a result, at work I behaved like nothing had happened to me. My colleagues then decided, "It looks like they didn't treat you badly in China. We were worried at first that it might take some time for you to recover from the physical and mental injuries." Actually the only thing on my mind at the time was: "I must not create any loophole for Dafa. I must not create a negative image for Dafa." On the other hand, if a Dafa practitioner fails to help sentient beings see through the persecution against Falun Dafa, he or she cannot possibly help much in offering the sentient beings salvation.

When my fellow practitioners in Taiwan mentioned my story occasionally, they all shared a similar impression that it was not a big tribulation and it was not worth discussing. One time fellow practitioners from a TV team came to interview me for a story. Watching my expressionless face during the interview, they commented, "It looks as if you gladly accepted the persecution!"

I remained in this kind of state from February until recently, when a fellow practitioner shed some light on this issue. She said, "We are now in the Fa-rectification period, not in the personal cultivation period. As Fa-rectification period Dafa practitioners, it is our mission to reveal the truth about the persecution against Falun Dafa and to offer sentient beings salvation." Her words suddenly woke me up. Indeed! We should see this story from the perspective of offering sentient beings salvation. We should wisely think of better ways to clarify the truth about Falun Dafa and reveal the evil persecution. Offering sentient beings salvation should be what truly matters. Imagine what it feels like to be a kind citizen who grew up in a democratic, free environment, and traveling to China and being abducted by the Chinese police, completely isolated, helpless, and subjected to physical and spiritual torments?

Teacher said, "Validate the Fa with rationality, clarify the truth with wisdom, spread the Fa and save people with mercy." (From "Rationality.") I now understand more clearly that, as a Falun Dafa practitioner, our foundation should be to use wisdom to help sentient beings by destroying their illusions, instead of revealing our supernormal cultivation state in front of them.
