(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Yang Yongping was born in 1959 and an associate professor at the Jiamusi University's College of Medicine. She suffered from many diseases. She lost part of her lungs through surgery and was in poor general health. Fortunately Professor Yang was introduced to the practice of Falun Gong in 1995. Living by "Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance" allowed her not only to regain her health but also made her enthusiastic about helping others. Since she worked diligently and was easy to work with, Jiamusi University awarded her "A Double Ten Distinguished Teacher." (She scored 10 out of 10 in both teaching and integrity.)

After July 20, 1999 Jiang Zemin and his associates began to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. They spread many lies and slandered Falun Gong. Professor Yang devoted herself to tell people the facts about Dafa. She told people how she benefited in mind, body and spirit, and that Falun Dafa is good, Falun Dafa is righteous, and how practitioners were persecuted.

In June 2000 two security guards, Wang Ming and Wang Yucheng from the 4^th district of Jiamusi University, unlawfully arrested professor Yang at her personal residence. She was detained at Xianyan police station for 15 days. During her detention she became gravely ill. The police became afraid, as her life was in great danger, so they released her. In January of 2001, the Disciplinary Committee of Jiamusi University arrested her and fired her from her position as Director of Research and Development.

In January 2001 Professor Yang trained high school candidate teachers. She mentioned the unknowns in humankind's knowledge, exploration of life, and incorporated discussions of Falun Gong and modern science. Because of these activities, Qu Yufeng, the head of the chemistry department, reported her to the 610 Office*. Mei Xuesong and Li Changfeng from the 610 Office at Jiamusi University planned to arrest her. On April 11, 2002 around 8 o'clock in the evening some policemen from the Xinghua police station and Xiangyang police department broke into her residence. After aggressively searching the entire house, the police arrested Professor Yang and detained her at the Jiamusi detention center. The Xiangyang District Court held a secret hearing on June 4, 2002. She was unlawfully sentenced to 3 years in prison and fired from public service. In September 2002 she was transferred from Jiamusi detention center to Harbin female jail, where she suffered serious mistreatment.

People from the 610 Office at Jiamusi University, security department and Xinghua police station hold brainwashing classes, and continually harass and arrest Falun Dafa practitioners. They force practitioners to write guarantee statements to give up practicing Falun Gong. Many local practitioners were forced to attend. Furthermore, members of the Communist party committee and human resources department persecuted practitioners who did not abide by their rules. Practitioners had their salaries and bonuses withheld, were detained and sent to labor camps, or sentenced to jail.

*The 610 Office is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political or judicial systems.
