Postdoctoral Researcher at the Science Academy of China is Arrested for Practicing Falun Gong

(Clearwisdom.net) Following the unjustified arrest of five scholars for practicing Falun Gong on September 19, 2003, the Beijing Haidian "610 Office"* and the public security continued their illegal acts of arresting practitioners at their work units and homes. This escalating method of persecution has been coded "Big Deal" by the police in the Haidian District.

The five scholars previously arrested were Dr. Shen Yingbo (Departmental Head and Professor at the Forestry University), Dr. Zhang Wenge (Associate Professor at the China Agricultural University of China), Ms. Tan Fang (wife of Dr. Zhang Wenge), Ms. Zhou Xiangyuan (Graduate of the China Agricultural University), and Ms. Qin Wei (Middle School Teacher) (for more details see http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2003/10/24/41596.html). Ms. Zhou Xiangyuan has been transferred to the Fengtai Detention Center of Beijing and recently her spouse, Dr. Wang Yongqian, a postdoctoral researcher at the Science Academy of China, was also abducted by the secret police of the "610 Office."

Postdoctoral researcher Wang Yongqian, 33, is an excellent young scientist and a crucial researcher working on a special project at the national frontier lab of the Institute of Physics in the Science Academy of China. After practicing Falun Gong, Dr. Wang's physical health greatly improved; he became stronger, gained weight and changed from being a frail to a more robust person. Together with his physical improvements, his mental state, which was often weak due to his heavy work load, also greatly improved. He became mentally full of energy, replacing his original mental fatigue due to heavy research tasks. Because he wouldn't give up his practice of Falun Gong, Dr. Wang has been illegally detained on several occasions and has also been forced to attend brainwashing sessions. The Beijing 2000 Millennium Fa Conference was held at Mr. Wang's home, and for this Dr. Wang was fired by his original work unit, the Radio Research Institute of the Science Academy of China, and was also deprived of any bonus or fringe benefits.

The Science Academy of China yields to the "610 Office" and cooperates with its evil demands. After allowing the abduction of Dr. Wang, the Academy issued an order to forbid any of its personnel who were recorded as Falun Gong practitioners from going abroad; they are not even allowed to visit Hong Kong or Macau. The Science Academy of China has also assisted the police in actively persecuting Dafa practitioners. In recent days, more and more Dafa practitioners from Beijing have been illegally arrested. This is something we need to pay close attention to. We must act quickly to grasp the time that we have to tell the facts about Falun Gong more broadly to the general public of China. We should act according to the comments made by Teacher, and proactively expose the evil to the local people, letting them know who is connected with the persecutors' group, so the general public will come to know the facts surrounding all of the persecution.

* "610 Office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.
