Article Review: Falun Dafa Gave Me a Second Life (Originally Posted on October 4, 2001)

I am a 70 year-old woman named Li Ying (alias). I have had a miserable life. As a child I was too poor to go to school and I could not even write my own name. After I married, I had to work very hard. Being overstressed, my kidney was inflamed before I reached thirty. By forty, I began to experience heart problems. During the flu seasons (spring and fall), I had to rely on oxygen bags. Because of my illnesses, I lost nearly all of my desire to live. My medical expenses were a heavy financal burden to my family. So in the early 90s, I contemplated having a heart transplant but the cost was far beyond my reach. All I could do was suffer! Because of the large amounts of medication I took over the years, the toxins accumulated in my body and bruises appeared on many places on my skin.

Fortunately, I started practicing Falun Dafa in the spring of 1997. About 20 days later, I felt that my health had improved and I decided to stop taking the medication that I had been shackled to for so long. I hadn't even been off the medication twenty-four hours in the past, but that day I was ok without medicine. I was so excited that I couldn't fall asleep that night. For twenty years I was more punctual with taking medication than I was in eating meals. Since I stopped taking medication, I haven't had a single pill or shot; my health has gotten better and better.

Through my practice, I have become more and more appreciative of the power of Dafa. In the beginning, when I saw that everyone could study the Fa and improve themselves, I cried out anxiously, holding Master's book in hand: "I wished I could read the book!" From that point on, I promised myself that I would learn to read. And, with some effort and a little time, I was able to read Zhuan Falun and some of the other Dafa books. Now, I'm even able to recite some of Master Li's poems and articles. Everybody around me has witnessed a change.

On the day in July 1999, when Jiang Zemin started to suppress Falun Gong, I was at home taking care of my father-in-law, who had been ill. A policeman and some people came to my house and told me, "The government now forbids you to practice Falun Gong...."

I solemnly told them that I started practicing Falun Gong when I was sick. Within a month, my illnesses were gone. I had visited many doctors in the province, but no one could find a cure. So who was so vicious that they would keep me from practicing Falun Gong? Besides, everything in Master Li's book teaches goodness. For example, practitioners' illnesses cannot be cured if they are not good. How could it be a crime to want to be good? And why were people not able to tell right from wrong or good from evil?

"Why don't you talk to my neighbors and colleagues," I said. "I am sure everyone will tell you that I was living on pills for a long time--I couldn't even breath normally, let alone take care of my father-in-law." I grew excited as I spoke. "It was Master Li who saved me and it was Falun Dafa that gave me a second life. I don't care what you do or say. I am determined to follow my Master and study the Fa." They left quietly after seeing my determination.

I told my experience to the people around me. After seeing the way I changed, my managers had a better understanding of the Fa as well. So when the police forced us to give up Falun Gong, they protected us by saying, "Why convert them? They're all goodpeople. Go take care of some real business."

Dafa gave me a second life, and Master's benevolence saved me from my painful past by demonstrating its miracles on me. All of these facts could not be denied or distorted by Jiang Zemin or anyone else. Dafa has helped countless people improve both physically and spiritually. It's undeniable that Dafa is in everybody's mind.

No words can describe the magnificence a Dafa practitioner feels. I am reporting what I have personally experienced so I can share with everyone the joy of practicing Falun Dafa. From the bottom of my heart, I hope that those who are read this article can benefit from it. In conclusion, I would sincerely like to give my best wishes to our Master and I hope that fellow practitioners can work hard and improve themselves.
